First night with the Mean Machine
« on: February 27, 2007, 01:46:19 PM »
Nice so far!  I average 175, and tonight I had a 228, 194 and 188 for a nice (for me) 610 series.  I could have easily scored higher if I had figured it out a little sooner in the last game.  I was having difficulty with the transition at first, but eventually found a line/hand position that worked really well.  The ball has more length that I expected, a decent midlane read, and a nice backend punch.  I actually buried it in the pocket most of the night, but my carry was suspect at times.  That's more bowler error than the ball though.    So far so good!  I haven't matched up well with Assymmetric cores in the past, but didn't seem to have any problems with this particular piece.  The pin is above my ring finger, 4" from my PAP with the MB at 45 degrees.

Mr. Lebowski, this is Bill Salnicker with the Southern Cal Bowling League, and I just got a, an informal report, that a member of your team, uh, Walter Sobchak, drew a firearm during league play. If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league...

Hope you knock them dead with the ball.  Good luck, and good bowling, my friend.

I will, Carl.  One thing I did notice is the MM seemed to send pins flying a little higher than my other stuff, and I left a couple of 7s from pins flying up and over it.

Sounds good Ryan.  The Mean has quite a bit of backend to it for a med/heavy oil ball.  Keep us posted....

Ryan,

The 7s are from strength of impact. As you get used to a ball and its tendencies those will easily be overcome.

Carl--

It did really seem to send the pins flying, and I was in the pocket all night, except for a stretch in the third game until I started to swing the ball a bit more.  I think it matched up well to my mild speed dominance, as when I hit the pocket with anything my ball has a good deal of power.  The MM gave me good consistency.

I have a couple of questions for you.

You say I just have to get used to the impact to avoid the blown out 7s?  Would that be some kind of adjustment?  I know how to adjust for weak tens, but blown out 7s I have no idea.

Also, how do you think this ball would work on a flatter pattern opposed to the THS?  I'm bowling a tourney this weekend in the ABT, and they usually put out a flat, heavier pattern.  I plan to take the MM, my Doom, and either the Pain or Absolute.  I play a bit better from deeper angles with the Pain, as it has a nice midlane read and seems to work better when I have to belly it a little.

On a solid 7 pin leave the adjustment could be anything really. You have to find that adjustment for the way you throw the ball. Odds are it was a pinch high so maybe moving your feet a couple if inches forward or moving left a touch would work well. If you over adjust for it though you will leave the weak 10s

I had alot of success with the Mean Machine on the Shark Pattern. I actually had area to miss to the right and it would recover well. I would throw it on a flat pattern with confidence.

Thanks, Carl.  It probably was coming in high on those blower 7s.  I plan to win the tourney this weekend with the Mean Machine, you heard it here first!
