suggestion for length
« on: June 06, 2007, 04:02:43 AM »
hey guys i need a little help and adding length. generally my house puts out a decent volume of oil but for summer league they put out alot less and the shot breaks down fast so all of my equipment starts checking up early. i generally start out with my power machine and then drop down to my machine or equation but last night by the second game even the equation was hooking early so i tried the desert heat which is usually perfect when the lanes are scorched but even it was having trouble if i threw it up the track it would go through the nose and if i moved in it just wouldnt face up with any power. so my question is what kind of surface adjustment should i make to the equation to get the ball further down the lane? its oob now should i just throw some magic shine on it or try 4000 abralon then magic shine?

Shine, shine, shine... then stay down at the line.

Yeah, going with a 4000 abralon with any form of delayed reaction polish for that high luster would help.

I'd try that on your weakest ball, and see how that does.

In addition to altering the coverstock, there are hand positions that you can learn and use to help you get more length.

hey dta,
had the same problem last week.  once i made the move to the desert heat i had to make sure i got into the track a little later than usual.  for the most part i ended up using a different hand position for a little more forward roll.  that seemed to help me keep a good entry angle.

Surface will help, but the layout is a determining also. Use the ball that has the pin furthest from your PAP. Hit the surface with 4000 abralon, this will help bring it to a decent gloss. THEN go over the surface with Track's Delayed Reaction. Make sure it is a good coat of delayed reaction applied to the surface.

Goodluck,

Well said Carl.  In addition to a earlier post, you can change your hand position.  I.E. more axis tilt to add length, or even bringing your index finger closer to your middle finger.  That will help too.
