Power Machine
« on: May 30, 2007, 12:02:39 PM »
Has anyone had problems with their Power Machine leaving crazy splits when there is carry down on the lanes. We started league last night and I bowled with it the first game, 198, second game 148 with three pocket splits. I promptly put it up. Well it was actually reluctantly, after being threatened by my brother and younger team mate.  I ended up averaging 170 for the three games. I have been averaging 190+, but I could not get the ball to move much and left crazy splits with it, time and time again, even in the practice games after league.

One of the older gentleman in the league ask me if the powermachine was my spare ball after seeing how little it was moving. I polished it with clean and tacky, but it now seems too shiny--much shinier then oob. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

By the way, we would have lost regardless, as the team we bowled against averaged 194, 233 and 279 without handicap, with the third bowler bowling an 807 3 game series.

Thanks

No, I've had virtually no issues with my Power Machine at all.  How is yours drilled? What's your line? What's the pattern like in your house?  What's your delivery and release like?  I had a extremely shiny cover on my PM for a while, until it started reacting weaker on the backends.  So I went to a 4000 grit finished to remedy that.

Sounds to me like you cleaning it with Clean n Tacky (did you do it on a ball spinner?) could be the problem. When you clean a ball on a ball spinner it can burn the cleaner into the cover creating more of a gloss.

I would hit it with 1000 abralon over the entire surface enough to get the shine off then hit it lightly with magic shine. You do not want to put the magic shine on the ball too heavy because you will be creating even more skid.

When you encounter carrydown you have to change your line, normally this is so with any ball. Maybe tightening up your line a bit would have worked, or move your target further outside so the ball has some dry to drive off of.

Slap 2000 on it, and clean it with clean n dull or storm xtra clean. The Power Machine isn't a ball to polish, thats for sure.

Hey ccrider,

I agree with Carl here that polishing this ball (or any ball for that matter) will make it more suceptible to the oil line or carrydown.  I've had more success at 2000 like Kenny states.  Try it and keep us posted, we're here to help bud.

Hey guys,

Thanks for your replies and suggestions. I have been out of commission a couple of days and am just getting back on my feet.

My pm is drilled with the pin 1 inch below and one half inch outside of my ring finger. I do not know my PAP but do know that I have a high track, approximately 1 inch from my thumbhole and avg speed of 16.5 mph.  Sorry I can't give more info but I am learning the language and my driller has not given me all the info.

I will try the 2000 first, and if that does not work, 4000.

Charles

4000 will give you more length & backend versus the 2000, but will still be better for carrydown or hang or lack of midlane read whichever is your case

I tried 2000 abralon and took the polish off of the ball, got the original movement bacck.

My drill specs are listed here: http://putstuff.putfile.com/85380/2330947. I have trouble getting many revs on the ball. Seem to come up the back of the ball, 16.5 mph avg. I also keep a blister of sort at the base of my thumb on the inside, and a callous on the side of my thumb next to my index finger.

Any suggestions for changes that may help.

Thanks

Charles
