The Rising
« on: June 01, 2008, 02:02:21 AM »
Hi am asking this on behalf of my colleague...he brought a used Rising cheap from somebody who can't make any used out of it....Colleague brought the ball to the Proshop to re-con and brought it back to OOB. The sad thing was the ball is also not moving much...he now thinks of putting a layer of polished on it. What we want to know is how much differences between a OOB and a polished Rising ? Does the polished Rising have stronger backend then the OOB ? Please help........thanks !!

I have two of four Risings polished.  The backend was definitely enhanced with polish.  Does the ball appear to be rolling out or is it possibly not finishing because he's playing too deep?

Hi Brain, not really sure if the ball is rolling out...he stands at 25, target at 13 to breakpoint at 10 (I think) but the ball just didn't finished...

Do you know what layout is in the ball? Also, any idea how much oil he's seeing and if he is on wood or synthetic?

Hmm.  Now that I think about it, I've never tried a polished surface on my Rising.  Just the sheer thought of it going even longer with even more backend....must give that a try.

Try either one or two thousand abralon with cleen and sheen. Best reaction I have gotten on the Rising. If no clean and sheen, then 100 and a light coat of Bean's polish. Similar reaction but can get jumpy off clean backend.

I have my Rising with the #1 drilling and at 500 abralon with no polish whatsoever.  I can use it the first game of 4 on the Chameleon pattern, after that it gets a little strong.  I can use it most of the time on our THS.  I have not bowled on any of the other PBA patters yet, I will be doing that later on this summer.

Can you tell if the ball is just not hooking, or is it rolling out? I have not polished a Rising for myself....I have put it at 4000 abralon at highspeed on the spinner, which takes it higher than box grit, and it is great when I need more flip.

I don't think people realize just how strong the core/cover combo is on that ball. Depending on rev rate, tilt, rotation, and speed, is going to have a huge impact on what surface and layout you really can use. I could not use the #1 layout but I did one with a 90 degree layout to put the core in a more neutral position and the ball was great at any surface I used. I am rev dominant with a lower track so the stronger layouts made the lane about 7 feet to long. I am really looking forward to the UpRising.

I would have to agree wit lou846. I was about to use mine as a door stop until I hit the surface with a burgundy scotchbrite then a coat of 800 grit polish. Now its the monster I expected and wanted. In oob the ball would just dump its energy too soon, with the hit being soft. It really depends on your game. I have learned to adjust covers when necessary.....9

Layout #1 and we see medium heavy and is synthetic lanes. And like what 9orbetter mentioned the ball seems to run out of energy at the end and hit soft.

I'd start with some Powerhouse Factory Finish.  I wouldn't marbelize it.  Just put a little bit of shine on her and see what it gives you.  I think you'll see a world of difference.
