Finally
« on: April 21, 2005, 05:22:26 PM »
Well, fellow Trackers, I finally have some decent news to share. I shot 244, 222, and 240 for a nice 706 last night. I actually was playing up the 3-5 area, whereas I normally cross arrows around 15-17 and hit 8-10 at BP. Up the ditch is normally OOB and a be Channel Surfer. There was enough oil to play my Animal, which I love to use. The shot was tricky in practice, as I could still skate past the BP with the Aninmal. I tried the Rule and had a clean look from outside. I must say, I wasn't impressed with my Rule initially, and haven't put a whole lot of games on it. I made a surface adjustment and found the condition she likes. I shot a 266 against my Dad with it (X,open, 10 bagger).
The bummer is, of course, the first game I whiffed a 10 pin (actually had two opens I think). The second game I came through the nose in the tenth and opened with the 2,4,8,10 (which I barely missed converting) and ruined a 258. The third game I was thinking 300. Front 4, then heavy leaving the 3,4,6,7,10 (which I converted), but went like 8/ 9/ before striking again for the 240. I'm pleased with the 706 series, but it's also still frustrating to know it could have been that much better.
Could someone donate a 15# GP2 to the cause? I really want one of these, but the wallet isn't havin' it!!!

Thats some great shooting, congrats.

But my question is why would you start thinking about a 300 after the front 4?? I mean, you're not even halfway there yet. Truthfully you shouldnt think about it at all at any given time and just go up and execute one shot at a time, but we are human and let things distract or disturb us that cause us to get nervous. Congrats again, nice series.

Way to go Spanky, nice shooting bud.  Just give it some time and things will come around.  Remember, we changed quite a few things when you came to see me.  Keep up the good work....

I can't remember, but it might have been Dick Weber, Carmen Salvino, or someone else who once said, "I start thinking about a 300 every time I start with the first one."

Rock,
I wasn't really putting a lot of pressure on myself at that point or anything. It's just I was executing beautifully and getting good carry. I struck frames 4 through 9 in game two, but came in light in the tenth and left 2,4,8,10. So, the 6 bagger, open, and to start with the front 4 I was just feeling like I was in a good rhythm and it could be the one. You're right; I wasn't even close at that point, but I was feeling pretty good is all.

Its understandable, I was just curious because as I stated, with only the front 4 you werent even halfway there yet. Heck, I've seen people start with the front 4 or 5 and then get so excited that they barely break deuce. Its all about trying to keep your excitement and nerves down. If you were relaxed, thats great, if not, then your mind worked against you. Either way, great shooting again.

I am still waiting for my first sanctioned 700. I hope I get it soon!!
