Title: to my suprise
Post by: toomanytenpins on April 17, 2007, 01:55:55 PM
I just won a mean machine off ebay for 10.00 plus shipping. I am almost scared now because they were flying like hot cakes and now i get one for that price. Its got a drill on it so i wont know till i get it whether its gonna get plugged and redrilled or use it as is maybe just plugging the thumb.
Anyone with any drilling tips would really be appreciated. I am thinking pin over bridge, i am finding this drill to really work well for me gives good lenght with an extreme snap on the back. I am hoping this ball will give me that on a heavier concentration of oil,its what i was hoping for any way.

I know pin under ring was the best drilling for me. The ball was amazing for heavy.

From the reviews I've read, placing the pin under the middle finger is an excellent way to go.

$10!?!

I have mine with pin in ring, I get great midlane read and great backend movement. For me the pin in ring finger on everything is very strong but clean through the heads.

Scoot - how far does this place the pin from your pap?  Also, how far is the MB indicator from your pap?

Pin over will go longer with more of a flip, but is not a true oil drilling. Please refer to the drill sheet for the MMachine. If you know your PAP coordinates, you can choose the appropriate drill. If you are a true low tracker(<3-1/2), pin over bridge might be close to leverage (3-1/2 to 4). Pin under would make the ball read the midlane earlier, but less backend. I don't know what you definition of heavier oil is?? It is hard to have a ball set up for heavier oil that has substantial backend especially for a low tracker/revs/speed. As I said - give Carl a ring.

Scoot....thanks.  After I left my post I did find that info and picture in your profile.  I have laid mine out 4 1/8 (pin) x 3 1/8 (mb).  I will be picking it up today and hopefully getting to use it tonight.

Apparently the Mean Machine is supposed to be a big hooker/oil ball?  Glad I didn't know that before I bought a used one because it had a 1" pin that I was looking for.  Drilled it to ignore the backends and go pretty straight and it does.  Hits real good though.  I don't know track stuff well anymore, but is it possible that this ball is just very versatile?

BTW, what is OOB condition of the Mean Machine?  My driller put mine at 4000.  That about right?

I was told that OOB is about 1500. And it looks about right when it is done.

Rags--

I feel the Mean is a VERY versatile ball. It will do what you want it to.  It's one of the few balls I can reliable say responds consistently to release changes, speed changes, etc.  Mine is pin above right, MB about 1" right of thumb, and it's a great performer.  I have a lot of success playing right up the 10 board with it, keeping my hand behind the ball, and it makes a gentle but powerful controlled path to the pocket.  If I get my hand more around the side, I can easily swing it out a bit and watch it come back.  It's my #1 ball right now.  I think in a cranker's hands it could become a big skid/flip ball, but I am leagues away from a cranker.

Mr. Lebowski, this is Bill Salnicker with the Southern Cal Bowling League, and I just got a, an informal report, that a member of your team, uh, Walter Sobchak, drew a firearm during league play. If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league...

I've one polished (pin above ring, mb 1/8" right of thumb) and the other dull (pin above ring, mb 1" right of thumb).  Polished turns really hard off the dry.  Can play fairly deep as the high polish provides length.  As for the dull, very strong arc.  Of course, requires some oil, but movement and carry are great!

it got here and it wasnt a mean machine but a machine. I really have no use for it though . I am sure it will only over lap with my phenom unleashed and my solution. And they already overlap . They gave me back my winning bid price. I think i am going to just sit it in the basement in the event something else cracks or gets stollen. Unless someone knows something about this ball that i dont

the Machine should give you a completely different look that either of those balls, and will handle MUCH more oil than the Solution

more oil than the solution huh. The solution as it sits is stronger than my phenom unleashed ,and u say the machine is stronger,I would have to see it to believe it.

my solution is 5 inch pin drilled 4 x 3 how would you drill the machine to be stronger than the solution.Anything under 4 inches pin to pap doesnt work for me because of my slower ball speed, although this is a lesser grit so maybe it wonrt burn up with a stronger drill.

you could put the exact same layout on the ball and it would be stronger than the Solution
