why the slash at toc
« on: April 10, 2005, 09:24:58 AM »
instead of gp2 or arsenal....I really like my slash...better than my gp2...and to see two pba players choose it over the "high" dollar balls was interesting....thoughts?

Randy mentioned that this week they were using a lot of coverstock due to the 51 feet oif oil. My guess is that the cover ond core of the Slash allowed the coverstock to be scuffed but not cause too early of a move. The core provided the motor for the backend move while the cover gave the bite at the right time.

I think you can really bring it into one word...smooth. IF you notice the PBA'ers are using more arc drills and smoother rolling balls as opposed to the big skid snap stuff...

Just my opinion

I missed the Goebel match but if I remember he has a very unique roll to his ball. It seems to me that he has very low track almost to the point of being a spinner. Perhaps the core revved at justu the right spot for him...I dunno but I stand behind my other opinion regarding Duke's ball.

What Doug says makes sense.  The oil was long, but Voss stated that the oil volume was low.  I would think the an aggressive cover + aggressive core would be too much ball for that.  Whereas the Slash has a pretty strong cover, and a good core.  I think the show demonstrated one thing pretty well, most of these guys care about winning, not the incentive money that the ball company will throw them for using the latest and greatest.

I was there all weekend and spent a good portion of time with
Chuck Gardner, picking his brain on layouts, ball choices, etc.,
We talked alot about the length of the oil vs. the volume of the
oil and how the player matched up with both.  Plus in match play
the surface and line changes affected alot based on who and where your opponent was.  Like Doug said, smooth was the word...

For example, the Track guys were throwing as follows:

WRW:  Dulled Exception.  GP2 was too strong, saw him throw that in warmup.
His best look was with the Exception.  Played up 5 had great look, got mowed
by Shafer shooting big numbers.

Richie Allen:  Arsenal Aggressive.  Polished with back flares scuffed.  Richie has some hand , played more inside than most.  When that went away, used polished Exception (which he used for spares also).

Bryan Goebel:  Slash (light polish with scuffed back flares).  Also used a polished Rule playing deeper.  Started out with a FAZ polished.  Best look with
the Slash.

Norm Duke:  Exception (scuffed tack and bowties) and Slash with a little more surface added.  He seemed to really like the Exception although he couldn't get it to the hole well.  It looked like it needed more surface than Norm wanted on it.  The Slash with surface allowed him to play his line, and he found considerable success.

Other guys were doing the same.

The shot played into guys who could play straight or those who were able to go up the ditch...

Hope this helps,

Bill

do you think Norm will settle a contract with Track or continue to be a free agent.

bh69...he won;t sign until he finds a line of equipment he is totally comfortable with and one that will provide balls for his style of bowling.

That's why he is a free agent....nobody will build a line of balls that will work as he needs.

Norm loves the simple cores...lightbulb style...Hammers, Beasts etc work exceptionally well for him. He tends to have trouble withthe complex cores. Personally I think he'd match up great with Lane 1 stuff.
