Track arsenal question
« on: May 04, 2005, 02:13:51 PM »
I'm in the process of getting an all Track arsenal. I just bought a Aggressive from Ebay, and am bidding on a GP2. With those two, if I add an Angular and a Xception, will I have an overlap? Also, with the Agrressive, will a Slash overlap with that, or is it OK to add?

So you're looking at:

Heavy-GP2
Medium/Heavy-Aggressive
Medium/Medium-Slash
Medium-Angular
Medium/Light-Xception

That seems like a pretty well rounded arsenal.  The GP2 will handle most (if not all) the oil you throw at it.  The Aggressive is an excellent step down from the GP2.  The Slash will roll early and be very smooth but hook less; you can play a straighter line with this.  The Angular should give you great length and it will roll up a tad bit sooner than the Xception with slightly less backend.  The Xception is a great Medium/Light ball with relatively clean backends.

I really like this arsenal, but I would try to add a Heat or something weaker under the Xception.

Buckwild,

I think you have a very good list going. I really like the Xception, but instead of getting that as icetink mentioned, I would get a Heat instead. It will give you a bit more separation from the Angular than the Xception will. To be able to use the Slash on mediums expect to adjust the surface a bit. It comes 1500 dull, and it may roll too soon to be used on mediums.

As icetink mentioned, the GP2 is everything you need in oil, and the Aggressive is a perfect step down. The Aggressive in its own right can handle some oil.

Goodluck, and if you have any other questions, just ask!

Thanks fellas for the reply. The Xception was going for a pretty good price, seems tempting.

A question as far as top weight: the Agressive has 2 oz top; Xception and GP2 has 2.5 top. Is that sufficient? All 3 has 2-3 inch pins.

I always drill for myself balls with 2-3 pins and tops from 2-3 ounces as well. Gives me my comfort area with my fav drilling. As for the X, if its a good price, get it. You could always ADD a Heat to what you have listed without breaking your wallet.

Buckwild,

Those specs are definately good to work with for any ball driller.

Hey Buckwild,

The arsenal looks good, I'd also just add the Heat to that and polish it or drill it a little weaker to go under the Xception.  The Xception is still a very good and hard hitting ball.  Ernie McCracken reminded me to bring mine back out and it helped me save my series last nite finishing with a 246.  I don't why I ever put it down...

EX,

So far, I bought the GP2, Aggressive, and Xception. If (when) I add the Slash and Angular, how should I drill the Angular and Xception to separate the two?

PS. This is your answer from another post I wrote about getting a Xception with 1.5 top and4-5" pin

"As for the layout bud, to get the ball set for a skid flip reaction placing the pin 4 1/2 - 4 3/4 from your PAP, keep the pin above your fingers, this helps create length. Place the MB 5 inches from your PAP, it will end up in an area near your thumb hole. This is the MB placement that is going to create the most "flip" off of the breakpoint.

The Angular is a particle pearl, and for me (I have an Angular and Xception drilled exactly the same-pin under ring, cg in palm, mass bias left of thumb on the X-no mass bias on the Angular) and the Angular starts a little earlier and has less backend than the X on clean backends. When the backs get dirty, I do notice my X having a little trouble with the carrydown, more than likely a combo of cover/surface/drill/bowler-high speed, high track. The 2 are overall very close, but I would drill the Angular with something that starts a little earlier than the X and drill the X, as Excaliber and Ten would say, to bring out of the ball what it is made to do...backend. This would probably separate the 2 for you, although even with mine drilled the same I see differences between them.

Buckwild,

With the 4 1/2- 4 3/4 pin from PAP on the Xception, try keeping the pin higher on the Angular as well, just put it closer to your PAP. I would suggest in the 4- 4 1/4 range. Stack the CG, this will leave extra sideweight in the ball. You will more than likely need a weighthole(which is another tool used to tweak reaction). The Angular naturally tends to start up sooner than the Xception, this layout coupled with the natural differences of the 2 will make them a great combo.

Hey Buckwild,

I second Ex's layout on the Angular.  Like Clint states also, the Angular and Xception are different already standing side by side but placing the pin a little closer on the Angular will help separate the 2 balls even more.  You can try the Xception as is and then even polish it later if you want to fit it into a med to maybe med drier condition.  Polished up, this ball goes a pretty long way and still reacts very well.  Hope this helps some...

Clint,
How would a Hexplosion fit in this? How similar is it to the Heat?

Buck,

The Hexplosion and Heat are 2 totally different reactions bud. The Heat reads the dry more and jumps off of the dry. The Hexplosion is smooth throughout the lane. If polished it can become "snappy", but still not quite as much as the Heat.
