Help with GP2 Drilling
« on: March 08, 2005, 10:40:55 PM »
Ok guys, need some advice.  My GP2 should be in today and I don't know how I want to drill it.  I thought I did, but now I'm not so sure.  I was going to drill it the same as my Rule (pin below ring finger with the MB kicked out to the right of the thumb hole).  This will be my heavy oil ball.  Can someone help with a recommendation on this.  I have medium speed 17/18 and medium/low revs.  My track runs pretty close to my finger holes.  I'm not sure what my PAP is.  Any other info needed, just ask.  I want this ball to be pretty aggressive throughout the lane, especially on the backend.

Wylie,

If you track close to your fingers, then you probably track high. Your PAP is probably way out there like mine is. That would mean that you throw the ball with alot of forward roll. In order to drill the GP2 for heavy stuff, I wouldnt suggest a drilling that is going to give you backend. If you look at the GP2 drill sheet for a high tracker, go with the #3 placements for both the pin and mb. This will put the pin below and a few inches right of your ring finger and the mb will be out on your val.

In order to drill this correctly though, you should try to find out what your PAP is. That will help out alot in drilling this ball.

Hope this helps,

Wylie,

The GP2 will automatically give you more backend than any strong particle ball I have seen. I have 4 of these and drilled them up significantly different. I have one drilled for length and backend and by no means is this ball for really heavy oil.

I would suggest to find out your PAP------we will be able to help more once we have that info.

I do have one drilled up (I went with a layout that Rick and talked about) and it rolls up quick and still has pretty good backend. I went with the pin below the bridge and MB on my VAL. The MB being on my VAL makes it roll up quick, but the cover, even as strong as it is on this ball, will allow for backend.

Hey Wylie,

How much oil do you normally see or do you want this to be a tournament ball?  As Ex states, this ball does offer quite a bit of backend strength naturally.  More importantly to us, in order to help you, is to know how much oil you normally encounter so we know we either have to help "delay" the roll of the ball or "assist" the roll.  If you can get us your pap (positive axis point) info from your driller or "a" driller, that would also be very helpful in suggesting the proper layout to the reaction you want.  Thanks...

I'll see if I can get my PAP info tonight.  The lanes I bowl on are fairly oily for a THS.  I'm looking for this to be more of a tournament ball or Sport condition ball (for playing down the outside in the oil)  It is replacing my Super Carbide.  Not really for a big flood shot (I never really see that) Just more for normal heavy oil on a sport shot or very heavy on a THS.  I hope this makes sense.
