Track Equipment and U.S. Open Results
« on: June 21, 2005, 12:59:24 PM »
Hello to all! Once again I give you more results from my experiences on the U.S. Open pattern! Quite an improvement from last week as I averaged +6 pins higher this week than on the shark pattern!

Games: 230!, 148, 177, 165, 153, 202
Average: 179.16
Total Pinfall: 1075
+/-: -125

Thoughts:
Maybe its just my style but my best line was between the second and third arrow (RIGHTY) and I was very firm in doing so. I got about 3 boards area, nothing more, nothing less! I shot the lights out first game playing up the 8 board, again throwing firm!

Balls Used and Thoughts on Reactions:

Rule GP2 -- After watching all week the U.S. Open on TV, I went with the WRW special in the GP2. Playing direct and firm, this ball over hooked and went brooklyn. I decided to play a couple of times real deep and either got it out too far in the Out of Bounds or I did NOT get it out enough and it went brooklyn.

Slash -- Figured I could used something very controlled that had some power with its dull surface. A whole lot of over/under with this ball. Although playing it firm up the 8 board I did find a little bit of success with this ball!

Rule -- The original shined on this pattern tonight, thus my 2 200 + games in game 1 and 6. My first game I could NOT miss and crushed the pocket, even had 2 splits the first game and pulled a 230 out! --Pats self on back-- Very proud of myself here!

X-Ception -- Again, the original X came with good timing, later frames in the sixth game I pulled it out played directly aiming in the middle and getting it out to the 10 board down the lane and as long as my speed was right, she crushed the pocket frames 7-9!

Overall Thoughts:

I'm averaging between 170-180 on these conditions every week, which I am very proud to be doing. I'm still 2nd overall on the league for high average. Just trail by 2 pins. Still clawing my way for the 200 + average which I have done once on the Chameleon!

Weaknesses:
I missed my usual amount of ten pins. But I whiffed the 2 pin twice and just some other stupid spares I should have converted easily! Oh well, nobody else's fault but my own!

Lighter Side of Things?
I recommend anybody wanting to see just exactly how real his or her game is to come out and bowl on these patterns and in sport shot pattern leagues. It will test your mental ability, and once again as always, I am not discouraged by these low scores. It is all about making shots and repeating shots and with practice, YOU WILL GET BETTER GUARENTEED!!!

If you have any thoughts, opinions, questions, comments, please reply to this post! Thanks for reading my thread! Have a great week and God Bless You All!

Michael,

While you are training yourself to be better by bowling on these conditions, why not use plastic for all of your single pin spares?

Carl,

That has been my plan of attack, I have just missed it with the plastic spare ball...I whiffed the 2 pin twice going straight at it...just got to practice on accuracy.

My spot shot league doesnt use PBA patterns it sucks but its fine i still have the second highest average in league but always shoot ur spares with a plastic ball except double wood but if u can use a plastic ball for that then great.

the first ball reaction governs the type of spares you're shooting.   a lot of "thru-the nose" or "missed the head" shots will generate a much percentage of 3 or 4 pin leaves.

when you have more of those 3 or 4 pin leaves, your spare percentage WILL go down.

Have you ever tried to pick up the 2-8-10 6 times in 4 games and how about having only 3 5 boards of error. If you go to far to the right gutter ball or nasty wash out if you go to far to the left brooklyn or your missing the head pin to the left.

Your right that has taught me alot in my league you have to shoot every spare with a plastic ball but even then its hard to string strikes together.

The thing you have to factor in is splits and cluster spares. Chances are you will chop something or you will miss and leave a split and be unable to convert. Add that with the difficulty to string strikes...your looking at 160-180 unless you can make something happen or stay away from tough spares.
