Mini Review: Animal Untamed #2...
« on: October 05, 2004, 08:31:53 AM »
This is my second Untamed, as I have dropped to 15lbs from 16lbs. I decided to drill this one in a different manner than I have any previous Morpheous I have owned. Usually I tend to drill these kind of strong....but with this I decided to get a little "different".

Ball: 6 3/4 pin from PAP (above and left of middle finger), MB in strong position right of thumb. No weighthole needed. I left the surface in box.

Lane Conditions: 38ft buffed to 44ft, heavy oil in the middle tapers out to the gutter. Wood lanes.

Line: I had to stand further left with this layout. My feet on 36, targeting 20 at the arrows with my breakpoint between 10 and 7.

Reaction: The ball clears the heads easy, but standing so deep------it still got into a very strong roll at about 30 ft and what I really loved was you could see the MB strength take over on the backends as the ball had an extremely strong ARC to the pocket.

Impact: Unbelieveable!!!! The ball kept the pins low, and pushed them sideways and back. The carry was tremendous. In comparison to other balls, I think the hitting power and "tendancies" were very similiar to the Mutant.<<<<<This could very well be due to the core shape being similiar.

Readability: It is still too early to tell, but I think that this ball is a good ball to at the very least show the length of a patter. You can visually see the ball roll and turn....which with some stuff it just JUMPS....this is an Arc, which I like better to read lane conditions.

OVERALL: I am very pleased. I was so hesitant to try a morpheous with this kind of layout, but I am VERY glad that I did. The only negative that I see is that even with this layout the Untamed is still going to need head oil, and this is not really a negative. Once the line had dried up a bit, I actually moved right, took some hand out of it and played straighter and this ball hits well, carries well and reacts well from all over the lane. FOR ME, this can almost be said about any Track asymmetrical though.

Once I get some more games I will post a review.

Atta boy Ex, you're not getting any younger you know.  The hitting power is still there isn't it?

Sounds good bud, I got to thinking about this also after we discussed it.  I used to be happy holding 210 for not bowling but now talking to all of you here in BR got my bowling blood flowing again and now I'm not satisfied.  But now I know I need a larger arsenal to help accomplish it these days...not fair, trying to carry 5 balls is half my body weight..

Vas,

This is my second Untamed. The first had the MB in the strong position and the Pin about 4 inches from PAP. I really liked it too, but wanted to try something different.

Tonight when I hit carrydown with my Untamed and it would not come back, I made a switch for a couple of frames to my Animal. I just drilled this Animal lastnight, it is drilled leverage pin, MB on my VAL. I have the surface taken down to 800---as with my 16lb leverage Animal that I had. This ball standing 35 targeting 6 as my breakpoint made the turn. So you could go this route......OR another way to go is the Rule Drilled with the pin slightly shorter distance to PAP (MB in strong position) kept with the box surface may get the job done because it is going to be more angular than the Animal. If the oil is heavy enough though you may still have to make a move right, though it will probably not be as far of a move right that you have to make with your Untamed.
I hope this helps bud.

RICK,
5 balls each at 14lbs= 70lbs, plus the weight of your bags and accessories you are probably at 100lbs.....I thought you only weight 105lbs?

Hitting power is still there, so I am glad I made the switch, it does make me not get away with muscling the ball....which I am trying to totally get away from.

The Untamed with this layout works great, I am glad that I did it, and thanks for your help in laying it out.

Hey Vasilis,

This is what you do, when Roy's sleeping, take his ball, change the grips and plug the thumb.  I have his specs so I can always drill him another one...

After being able to get a few more games on this ball I decided I would post a quick update.

I have a few options to use as a "first out of the bag ball", the Untamed, the Freakazoid #1, and the polished Rule. Usually I choose the Untamed. The more I throw this ball the more I get hooked on it. Sometimes.....the point where I am trying to use it when I need a different ball reaction.

Folks, don't be afraid to try this layout on a morpheous. I was so hesitant to do so because I always wanted to keep it strong. This ball is perfect for the ordinary league shot. It is not super overreacting on the backends, and it does not roll so quick that I cannot use it on a house shot. Without a doubt I will be trying other equipment with this kind of layout. Thinking back, I think this layout would have been totally awesome on the FreakOut, or even an Unleashed.
