Ok, guys. The specs for both the Rule and Delta 1 are very similar as far as overall performance and lane conditions they are designed for. Give me an honest assessment on the differences between the two and why did Track discontinue the Rule and replace it with a very similar ball.

is it similar though???

I'll let you think about that, wait for rick or someone to chime in

i could tell you honestly right here : they are not similar really, they have some big differences. But i think rick or someone who has thrown both many a times can tell you better

Wrong question.

They discontinued the Rule long before they ever thought of the Delta 1. They, any manufacturer, will discontinue a ball for one reason only - insufficient sales.

The coverstocks are different; Rule has GOO compounded; Delta 1 has GOO LS sanded. Cores are also different.

Track just needed/wanted a solid resin ball in an asymmetric core.
The Xception and the Xception 5.0 are pearls; the GP2 is a particle. The Delta 1 is just another attempt to make and market a solid resin ball in their premium line.

The Delta 1 seems to have the popularity that the Rule lacked.

The Rule is an AWESOME ball (my favourite next to my Phenom), and it's sad that it didn't become very popular.  I guess there's a positive side to that though; the Rule Delta 1 was created!

Comparing the Rule Delta 1 to the Rule, my Rule seems to 'squirt' a little bit more on heavier patterns.  The Delta 1 gives awesome midlane and recovery, and as stated before, it helps open up the lanes A LOT even with out-of-bounds.  The backend of both the Rule and Rule Delta 1 is awesome, and I'd say there's about the same.  For a 900-grit sanded ball to have as much backend as a 2000-grit sanded ball is pretty amazing!  The Delta 1 for me is like a Rule with more midlane.

I'm gonna try taking a green Scothbrite pad to both of them and then compare.  Hopefully I'll be able to go out Tuesday night... maybe I could take some vids to.

Here are Rick's vids: http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/wetoddimage.wtdr/wOTU5NjQ4NnM0MTNkZmQzMXk1NDE%3D
and
http://media.putfile.com/ohhosting

From those two vids, I'd think the Rule is sexier (I still go "oooooooooo *drool*" every time I watch the Rule video), but then again, I have no idea how different the two oil patterns in both videos are.

Specs are close, but the cores are totally different and so is the cover. The original Rule had the original Goo reactive cover while the Delta has the Goo LS (Xception cover without the pearl). The Delta has more kick than the Rule did, which could also be from the Delta's flipblock, which is the largest volume flipblock in the industry. The Rule is much more even than the Delta, Delta can get the job done deeper than the Rule ever did for me.

Hey djones,

The Rule and Rule Delta 1 are very different in overall strength.  The cover on the Delta 1 allows it to handle much more oil in comparison and is not a replacement for the Rule.  The backend strengths may be similar as you can tell from the vids that Icetink has provided for us but the Delta 1 is still stronger by definition.  If I were to throw both balls side by side, the Delta 1 I'd say is about almost 4-5 boards stronger.  Hope this helps explain some....

I really really REALLY like comparison videos.  It gives people a better idea of the differences in reaction shape and overall ball strength.  I think it helps a lot for when people are trying to fill gaps in their arsenals.

djones,

I can only echo what everyone else has said.....they are totally different. The Delta 1 has much more movement in oil than the Rule. As far as I am concerned I do not even feel like they offer up similiar ball pathes.....the Delta rolls sooner and it has more backend than the Rule.
None of us know why Track discontinued the Rule. We can speculate though, maybe it was because of how popular the GOO LS was with the Xception?

Goodluck!
