What Track ball= a Ebonite Apex Intensity
« on: March 08, 2005, 12:58:10 PM »
Can anyone help me on this?

I would like to know what Track ball I could get that comes closest to that of an Apex Intensity. A friend of mine let me throw his and that particular ball rolls well for me on a condition I see regularly. It is highly polished and is a pin up over the ring with the MB kicked out about 2.5 away from the thumb a tad outside of the strong position.

I was thinking about an Exception drilled that way. What would be the difference lengthwise? I would think it would move harder, but the drilling could be tweaked. What pin or top should I go with? I have a leverage Rule which I love. Would a 3-3/8 leverage Exception be a good choice? That drilling rolls well for me

Come on Track guys with the pro shops, help me out here. Rick?

My axis is 5" over 3/8 up. I'm a 45 degree tilt, med ball speed 15- 17, with a strong rev rate.

The X would probably be a little longer and stronger than the Intensity. A ball more similar to the Apex would be a Phenom Unleashed. I had an Intensity and the Phenom Unleashed is a much better ball and hits harder, but they seem to roll very similar to me.

GOOD CALL Clint. I tried to think of a ball that would be close to the Intensity, and I think you nailed it. The Unleashed is close....but with more backend.

Hey RCKYURWLD,

If it isn't the Unleashed, I'm thinking about the SuperFreak.  Being heavier particle, it also reminded me of the Intensity.  There are some blowing out right now by me on the west coast, let me know if you're interested.  I'll help you out...

I think that a shiny RULE would most likely fit the application.  If I'm not mistaken didn't the intensity have a good amount of reactive in it.  If you want the ball too hook med of the lane to the back the RULE was made just for that in the high performance line.  What ever you chose, bowl well.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen

Rick  .... I have a Super Freak  3.25 x 3.25    I will have to hit that surfaceW/1500 and polish it up good to try that.

Looking at my equip. My Mutant drilling is VERY close to that guy's Apex. I hit the Mutant with Magic Shine to give it a good gloss. I think I will try that on for size....

How does that sound?

Hey RCKYURWLD,

I mentioned the Super Freak because I felt the Intensity was a bit rolly.  I did a Demo Day with Pam Buckner back then and the one I tested just rolled pretty hard and heavy.  It could've also been the drill pattern they placed on those balls for the demo but this is what I got out of it bud.

RCKYURWLD,

I had an Intensity and it is exactly as Rick mentions, VERY "rolly". I do not think the Rule would fit that because the Rule gets down the lane so much better. Rick's thoughts of the SuperFreak are awesome---if you can still find one. The Mutant is stronger throught the lane than the Intensity----but with the polish it may be close.

OK    Rick, Ex

The Intensity I threw was shined up with Delayed Reaction. As I mentioned, the Mutant I have appears to have the same layout (without getting a 1/4 scale out)as that Intensity. I hit it with Magic Shine and it now has a good gloss to it. I am going to try it Tuesday. That Intensity is a heavy roller no doubt. For some reason, that surface/core combo works well on that synthetic condition.

My Mutant was a smoother flip type reaction but once it rolls, it rolls heavy and hits hard. The Mutant gets down the lane more than I thought it would originally. I can easily overthrow it, so I will have to remain aware of that fact. I am hoping I can use this ball like this because I liked it in 03.

AS I have mentioned, I do have a Super Freak. It is a 3.25 X 3.25 the pin is between 2.5 and 3" above the mid. I never got comfortable with that ball. That ball may work as Rick said. It does not have 20 games on it I will bet.

Thanks Guys

rckyurwld,

Try the Mutant and see what you think. I do not think the Mutant was as "heavy rolling" as the Intensity. You may be better off with the superfreak. HOWEVER---try the Mutant see what it does, you may need to touch the surface a bit to break the polish and it may end up close for you.
