Blister
« on: March 17, 2006, 07:11:56 AM »
At the start of every year I always develop a blister on my thumb.  On the inside, at the bottom, right where it meets the palm.  I was wondering if there is anything that I can do about.  After a couple weeks it start to callus (sp) over, but when I bowl a tourney or more than 6 games it tears off, and I have to start over.  I've been told that its because I have a very high backswing, but I've had the problem for over 15 years.

The first thing you can try is to get your thumb hole beveld a little bit.  Another option is to have youer pro shop guy check the pitches in your thumb.  The standard is to pitch the thumb towrds the blister.  This usually takes care of the problem.

I used to have thumb bliter problems all the time.  Once I got the thumb pitches worked out my blister never returned.

Now there are times even if you have the correct pitches that you can still get blisters.  I find them more common during the spring and summer months.  Baby powder usually can help during those times.

Brunner,

It can be one of many different things. Go to your local pro shop and have him/her check your thumb and the pitches.....and your span as well. We should not have to bowl in pain bud, and if you have a blister it is not natural.

Hey Brunner,

Here's a list of what possibly could be causing your problem:

1) Bevel or edge of hole is too sharp
2) Span too long causing excessive rubbing..joined by a sharp edge(reason#1)
3) Hole is too large and is causing you to squeeze to hang on (very common)

These are the most common reasons that I've seen when a bowler has the blister at the base of the thumb.  Hopefully one of these reasons helps you rectify your problem.
