Track Legion Members, this is a must read!
« on: June 21, 2007, 02:17:28 PM »
Rick and I need a little bit of feedback from you folks. We are going to be featured in the upcoming issue of Pro Shop Insider Magazine. With one of the main purposes of the article being the Track Legion. During the interview process we could not help but stress the importance of the Track Legion and how vital each and every member is to the future of The Track Brand.

So this is what we need.

Can you please let us know (via this message board) what it means to you to be a member of the Track Legion?

What type of impact have Rick and I had on you as bowlers and your knowledge and understanding of equipment and layouts?

Thank you for taking the time to read and respond to this thread. Some of the replies will end up in the Fall issue of Pro Shop Insider Magazine. Please, sign your response with your real name so that it will appear that way in the magazine should yours be chosen.

Thank you,

-Carl

To me the legion is more then just a group of guys on a bowling forum. To me the Legion is a family of guys who accept each other and know that every member is there to help any other member if they need our help. It doesn’t matter how much you know or how little you know, in the legion every little amount of info you can give to anyone is accepted.  When I think of all the info I have gained from everyone in the legion I can’t understand how I could ever keep it all in my head. So as I see it the legion is not a just a group of people who like to use a companies products. I feel that we are more of a family like most guys on here like to say. I have even had the ability to meet a few of the guys from the legion. They have all thought me something or showed me something even if the levels of knowledge of the person was lower or even greater then my own. This just shows that what I said about everyone is able to contribute to the knowledge of the group is very true.

When I think of everything I know about the game. I would have to give credit to Carl for about 85% of it all. I have known him for over five years. In those five years I have learned a vast amount about the game. Such things include how to alter my axis rotation to help achieve a different reaction without even having to change equipment. The biggest thing I have learned from him is everything I understand about layouts, core strengths, and the vast amount of knowledge he has given me to help me understand the many kinds of cover stocks. That knowledge is something I regard as the best because that is what I like most about the game. I find the many ways you can alter a cover stock compelling. I also know that everything I know about them is mainly from the information Carl gave me. I knew a lot about covers before I met Carl. Yet at that time I only knew about the basic types, Reactive, Pearl, and Particle. I had no clue that there were such things as Particle Pearls, Solid Pearl Hybrids, and all the degrees of the Particle loads. So for all this I am grateful to Carl. I credit Rick with helping me understanding Oil Abosbtion rates. I really credit them both with taking there time with someone of my age. Many people in this sport feel that you have to be an older player of the game to be able to understand the parts of the game that they understand. Yet they and the Legion have given time to help all comers legion member or not, old school player to the young guns of the game. I feel that with Carl, Rick, the Legion, and the people that ebonite places as the heads of the company, we will have one heck of a run for a long time.

I too would like to thank everyone, but the people in the company who talked to me even though they were the president of the company and one of the regional reps. They were very friendly and even though i probably bugged them, they took the time to help me out. I hope Track continues their run of strong cores within a weaker cover. It plays well to my game and i believe Track and the help of The Legion have helped me improve my game. I also enjoy how noone bags on eachother in this forum. Everyone else tries to bash eachother but here it seems like people to do what this forum was made for, talk about track products. So thanks everyone and here is to the continuation of the Legion!

First of all, I would like to thank everyone here who shares his/her experience and knowledge in the community, while I can collect all kinds of information and become more knowledgeable .I started bowling like 11 years ago for about 2 years, then stopped until 2 years ago. A bowler friend of mine introduced me to Rick while I needed a new ball after I picked up bowling again. The first impression that I got from Rick was, this guy is so knowledgeable, and he would try to explain all the theories so simple for me to understand. Whenever I have any question to him, although it might sound stupid to him, he would just try to explain it so detail, but yet, so simple to understand, and he would never give me that feeling that I am bugging him with something stupid. After been dealing with him for a while, I know this guy runs the Pro Shop not because of doing business, but he just has the passion in it. I feel so much luckier than lots of people here, since I can bug at Rick in person, while he's just 15 minutes away from where I live. Rick, you are the man!! Thanks so much for being so patient in educating me everything about bowling. Sorry Carl, I don't have much to say about you, but I know you are the one of a kind of cool guy just like Rick with the passion.

Well, I don't know if what I'll say will be much of any help because granted I've been bowling for about 13 years, but only about the last 7-8 has been taken seriously.  However, based on where I've been and what I've seen, it's some dedication involved being a legion member.  What I mean is, seeing a true track person is rare.  Every house/league I've bowled in, I'm the only one who has more than one Track ball.  Every pro shop I've been in, I'll see at least 4-5 types of every other brand.  Track equipment on the other hand-1 if I'm lucky(and this was before the buyout).  Even on tour, Wes Mallot was the only one throwing Track, and I heard a rumor that he's not even with Track anymore.

Moving on, it means a great deal to me to be a member.  If not directly, I'd love to see Track have the kind of status that Ebonite, Hammer, Brunswick, and Storm has.

My knowledge and understanding of equipment and layouts has increased by leaps on bounds in these past few months.  Before when I got a new ball, it was just "Here, I have a new ball.  Drill it.  How?  I don't care, just give me something".  If it worked, great.  If it didn't, I'd say my childish,"this ball friggin sucks", and put it away-not considering I was doing something wrong.  I had all high performance balls with stacked leverage drilling-which I never kept clean.  As for altering surfaces then-yeah, right.  Whatever.

Now, I understand the importance of various drillsets, and altering surfaces for most pristine reaction pending conditions.  When something didn't work, I knew why, and 9/10 the adjustment I made was the right one.  My delivery is much more fluid and consistent(which is funny yet impressive considering they haven't actually seen me bowl) which has resulted in more 200 games and 700 sets than ever.  God, I could go on all day on how much help these guys have been for me.

Hi everybody, i was a big poster on the track forum. I am very glad it is back up and running, but back on the topic. On the track forum, i learned so much. I was never afraid to post something that i didn't know, even if it seemed obvious. I learned all about different layouts and how big of a difference where the pin was or how long the pin is in reference to your PAP. I also learned a bunch about different types of covers and how much difference little adjustments in the covers can make on your reaction and carry percentage. Overall, the legion is like a family, and i know, my next ball, will be a track, from ebonite, or not, they are all good.
