HEY ALL, NEED SOME HELP WITH NEW BALL SELECTION. IM LOOKING FOR A HEAVY OIL BALL, THAT CAN HANDLE HEAVY CARRY-DOWN CONDITIONS. CURRENTLY THINKING ABOUT, HAMMER HAWG, TRACK RULE GP2, ROTO-GRIP EPIC BATTLE, COLUMBIA EPX-T1, STORM PASSION AND A FEW OTHERS.

IM A TWEENER, 18-19 MPH, AROUND 300-350 RPM, SEMI-ROLLER. CURRENTLY STAND AT ABOUT 15, THROW OUT TO ABOUT 10 AT THE BREAK-POINT, BUT HAVE TO PLAY STAIGHTER WHEN CARRY-DOWN IS EXTREME.

LOOKING FOR A BALL THAT WILL ALLOW ME TO OPEN UP THE LANE A LITTLE BIT MORE AND NOT SKID DOWN THE LANE WHEN CARRY-DOWN IS EXTREME. LOOKING FOR SOMETHING THAT WILL HAVE A STRONG MID-LANE TRANSITION, BUT WONT BURN UP.

CURRENTLY USING:

COLUMBIA ACTION- AWESOME BALL, GREAT FOR MEDIUM-HEAVY, CAN HANDLE LIGHT CARRY-DOWN, BUT SKIDS TOO MUCH WHEN BACK-ENDS ARE SOAKED.

TROPICAL STORM- DRILLED FOR LENGTH, USE ON LIGHT CONDITIONS AND FOR SPARES.

STORM SUPER CHARGE- DONT USE MUCH SINCE BUYING THE ACTION, BUT STILL A GREAT MEDIUM OIL BALL.

DRILLING SUGGESTONS AND OTHER BALL SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME.

OK, well you are not going to get all your wishes in one ball. Somewhere down the line you are going to have to learn to adjust to all these conditions you know exist.

You are leaning towards high end equipment and in case no one else has told you, high end equipment gets more and more condition specific. So you are NOT going to find a ball that will handle all the conditions you are looking to solve. The Hammer Hawg is a good choice. No one in our area uses the Storm equipment. But the Lanemasters Big Bang has produced numerous honor scores in the short time its been on the lanes.

When back ends are soaked that's a crappy low scoring condition. You will just have to learn to make the best of it. And if you are not happy with the Action then I'm betting you will not not happy with much else. Recognize the condition for what it is. You have to play it and there's no magic bullet. Take whatever the lane gives you.

I played on a condition today that I could not get a wrinkle from my Big One, drilled stacked leverage. I ended up standing 17 pointing the ball up 6 straight to the pocket. The spring break has produced enormous open play all day and that's what I got by the time I got there at 5pm. No backends and a lot of oil smeared from gutter to gutter, back to front. They oiled for 6:30 league while I was practising, and immediately I moved left/inside, still shooting an outside line, and had tremendous backend reaction. But I had to move at least 5 boards right off the bat. How did I know to move that much? Experience. And the fact that I recognized the played out condition for what it was. But I didn't have to change balls.

Hey Guff,

The GP2 can easily eat thru the heaviest of oil conditions (with the right surface) and have it read the midlane so it can recover on the backend. I think you may even be able to use a Robo Rule if you only need a step up from the Action. Depending upon which ball you choose, you'd probably still want to make sure to place the mass bias in a stronger to earlier rolling position to help get the ball started. Hope this helps...

I agree with tenpinspro. The GP2 would be a great choice. Mine actually sits in the closet because there actually isn't enough old out here for me to use it. Well at least not anything my Delta One can't handle

I just punched up a Morich Total shock and Awe and I am SURPRISED! Great mid lane, back end, continuation, etc. After 20 ft it ignores oil but, still motors along without burning up!! It hits as hard and carries as good as anything I have thrown also. I have had the GP2, Hawg, Trifecta, and a few other oilers but, this one has impressed me the most b1y far!!!

The GP2 is an oil loving ball....I have never seen a shot where it could not make some sort of move.....however, like its already been said, if you only need a step up from the Action, the Robo Rule is another thought as well....same cover as the GP2 but with a lighter load of particles!

I like the TS&A. Buddy of mine is a big Morich guy and he throws one. Pretty Impressive Ball in my opinion.
