Title: track power wash [[clint or resident experts
Post by: kc571 on November 03, 2006, 03:15:20 AM
Is this product the best thing to clean your balls with?  I've used 409 in the past, but have been told that this stuff is better.

And, is Power Wash good for all cover stocks (i.e. Track, Columbia, Brunswick, etc.)?

Power Wash can be used on any ball from any company and its a very good product....however, Clean N Dull is the best stuff out there...especially for deep cleaning....ask anyone...even others from ball companies that do not produce their own cleaners say Clean n Dull is the best stuff out there....

thx for responding Clint.

Does Clean and Dull change the surface of the ball?

And, someone told me that Formula 409 isn't "good" to clean with.  Any truth to that?

thx again!

Clean n Dull does not change the surface, it is a deep cleaner...

As for toher stuff, my opinion is always this....would you use something other than car wax/cleaners on your car???? Probably not, so why would you use anything but bowling ball wax/cleaners on your bowling balls?? I am sure using other stuff than bowling ball specific cleaners/waxes/whatever is a big culprit for coverstock death today.....my opinion only.

Is clean and dull good for getting some excess oil out of the ball as well or is a good ball soaking in order for best results?

I don't know how much oil it will draw out of a ball, but otherwise, it may be the best cleaner on the market.

Seeing how this is my favorite area in the world of bowling I will step in. Clean n Dull is like  clint said a deep cleaner that doesnt change the surface of your ball. Clean N Dull will pull oil out of your cover stock but only so far down into it. The hot water bath removes almost all of it, how ever when you use Clean N Dull it will help prolong the time between hot water baths. I myself use both Powerwash, Clean N Dull, and then when I feel I have lost alot of reaction I soak the ball. Also as to the using like 409 on your bowling balls, like clint said you wouldnt take pledge wood cleaner and go clean your windows. The same thing is true with your equipment, the bowling ball cleaners are chemicaly formulated by  urathane/resin specialist as to ensure the safe contact between the coverstock, oil, and cleaner.

But we all know how marketing works.  If you look at the contents of power wash, the derivatives may be variations of "Formula 409".  Cleaner is cleaner, isn't it?

Besides I would think Ball Manufactures would want their cover stocks to go bad so you'll have to buy a new one.  That's how car manufacturers work.  They don't want your car to last 10 years.

thanks again!

Well...you can believe what you want, and maybe some of it is advertising/marketing? BUT still, I would not use anything but a bowling ball cleaner/etc on a bowling ball.

What does the number of balls I drill have to do with using a bowling ball cleaner on a ball? Before staff, when I only drilled a few balls, I still cleaned them regularly with bowling ball cleaners....hasn't changed, I am just fortunate enough to now be on staff....

None taken Mut....but I have only used Clean n Dull for years....even when I was not throwing Track....as I threw Hammer when it first came out from Ebonite...I loved the Vicious Particle (yellow/green puke ball) and cleaned it every set with Clean n Dull...just liek every ball I have owned since Clean n Dull came out years ago....

But you are right, perception is perception....and it differs from one person to another!

After reading all of the replies, I get the impression that some of you are mistaken about the ball cleaners.

Let me start by saying that Clean N' Dull is a deep cleaner and does NOT need to be used after every set. I have found that if you clean the ball after each set with a spray on cleaner, it will remove most, if not all of the surface dirt and oil, thus it will not soak into the coverstock. Personally, I use Ultimate's Ball Rejuvenator. About 7 bucks for a 8 oz bottle isn't all that expensive.

The Clean N' Dull will last one for a while depending on the how frequent one bowls and needs the deep cleaning. If you bowl often, then once a week. Not so often, once every two weeks, once a month. If you see a loss in the ball's reaction then give it a deep clean.

As for household products, I do not recommend it. As mentioned, household products are meant to be used on the things they were formulated for, NOT bowling balls. Not only could the chemicals potentially contribute to weakening the coverstock, but most of the products also leave a film or residue behind and cause the ball to react less. I noticed this when I was using 409 a while back. I wasn't able to get that tacky feeling after cleaning with 409. I assure you, the balls are tacky after cleaning with a ball cleaner.

Just as with household products, ball cleaners can be bought in larger sized bottles as well. The Ultimate Ball Rejuvenator comes in a 32 oz spray bottle as well as the 8 oz spray bottle. That's my recommendation, but there are alot of other ball cleaners out there.

Power Wash is a very good quick cleaner.....used directly after league etc...

Clean n Dull and Clean n Tacky are both deep cleaners and they are the best out there!

I want to comment on the statement made about using other cleaners such as 409.

I use Clean n Dull, Clean n Tacky, Power Wash. I have used Neo Tac's Rejuvinator and Legends ball cleaner. All of these are made for the purpose of cleaning a bowling ball. I have never had a ball die over time. These cleaners are made to combat lane oil.

409 is not formulated to fight oil used on a bowling lane, is it?

Hi Carl and Clint,

Thx for the replies.

I read somewhere (prob from Clint) that Clean and Dull and Clean and Tacky are similar?  Can you elaborate?  Buddies Pro Shop said that the dull, dulls the ball, and the tacky leaves it tacky without dulling it.  Can you confirm?

Also, I assume that I should use Power Wash after each set, and use CND or CNT once a month, or as needed.

Not true and I can't believe Buddies told you that. Could you have maybe misunderstood what they said?

IF Buddies said that word for word, they are wrong. Clean n Dull does not change the surface of the ball.

Not to throw anyone under the bus, but here is the reponse that I got when I emailed them asking the difference between cnd and cnt:

Yes.  The Clean and Dull, is made to leave the ball with a dull finish.
Tacky is designed to make the ball tacky again.

thx...

I have been told over and over, and we repeat on here over and over, Clean n Dull's name is misleading...it does not dull the ball. It does not change the surface. See if Ten or Carl or someone else on staff chimes in and agrees here...

Clean N Tacky (formerly Clean N Dull) does not dull the cover.  What you see is lane oil that 'shines' the ball get removed.  There's no grit present in the cleaner (it's gel-like) therefore non-abrasive.  One thing it does very well is provide a tacky surface (best applied with spinner).

Clean n dull will not dull a ball on its own, only when used with some kind of abrasive.

Also i am no where near being on any ball companies staff. ALthough I would like to be I am not. However ever since I first used clean N Dull I seen a great product. I have also like carl used many cleaners. I even use to use rubbing alcohol, and stuff like Mr. Clean way back when. Yet ever since I started using specific cleaners I have gotten a lot more life out of my equipment.

quote:
well yeah you wouldn't, but the rest of us probably can't just drill up 10-15 of Tracks newest balls whenever we feel like it
--------------------

Not to jump on people but if I remember correctly from what carls says, the type of staffers that clint and carl and rick are, comes with a ball limit a year. I think it is something line one of every new release the spare ball and maybe 1-3 extra balls of choice. Now I may be wrong but if I am right sounds like to me that clint still had to pay for the many many robos.

Now another thing is how much you pay for cleaner. Sure it can get expensive but a bottle of CND says it can clean 100 balls with the big bottle. I for a while to get longer life was taking a small spray bottle and putting about 1/3 CND and then 2/3 water. This sure as heck gave me more clean and dull and I used it after a week or so after a clean with powerwash. I have had this big bottle of CND for almost a year. All in all don't use something that wasn't made to clean a urethane/resin based surface. The chemical process used to create the coverstock is studied by the guys who make ball cleaner and it is then made safe to not harm a ball. I mean some of the household cleaners contain stuff that may even be banded like acetone.
