Track 916T good for 750 on Men's Open Pattern
« on: March 15, 2011, 05:39:05 AM »
Well, we are getting ready for nationals, and as usual for the next three weeks our center is putting out this years mens open pattern. As I noted in a previous topic, I was able to bowl on the pattern last week, but last night was the first time the entire league was able to bowl on the pattern as a team.

Well, the pattern played pretty much how I expected it to from our dry run on the pattern. I was able to play a small swing shot with the 916AT from 12 to 8 for the first two games with two board moves left when the ball would approach the high hard one (by the end of the second game I was throwing 18 to 8), and by the third game I was able to jump back right with a 505T to 16 and take advantage of the line I had made with the 916AT. I went 240, 257, and 253 for the night.

I will note that the deep inside line didn't seem to develop as quickly as it had on the practice run last week. In the end the best option seemed to be to stay in the same area as we started with weaker equipment.

One note of advice, they aren't kidding about the backends being lively with this years pattern. I would not suggest throwing anything with a serious skid/flip drilling as the shot seems to want to funnel the ball into the high 1-3 pocket leading to a lot of 4/9's. When you see any sign of the ball being even a little high I really suggest making a pre-emptive move as the backends hook so much that you really don't have to worry about the ball not making the turn on such a small adjustment.

The pattern is definitely get-able, but there is a high potential for disaster. You shouldn't be suprised to see a lot of games with all strikes and two opens, which just happen to be really nasty splits. That seemed to be the key last night with everyone else. In the end control the pocket and make sure you don't make your moves to late.

Bowler Stats (RH):

425 RPM

18 mph in the heads

PAP: 4 1/2 over and 1 inch up

916AT is drilled with the pin 1 1/2 inch directly above the ring finger, with the MB 1 1/2 inches to the right of the thumb with no hole needed. The finish is a fresh box progression to 2000 (not factory finish).

The 505T is drilled pin down, with the pin on the grip center line and just below the fingers, with the MB right next to the thumb on the right side, with a flare increasing hole down the VAL line. The finish is a fresh box progression to 4000 (not factory finish).
