I recently attended a Track day, at my local center, where I had a one-on-one session with Chuck Gardner. The experience was great. He recommended the Desert Heat, from drier conditions, with the following layout. What type of reaction would this layout produce? I am not too familiar with layouts, but I know a little. This is what was written on the recommendation sheet. Where would that put my CG?

Pin 4" + 3" above midline - no extra hole

I would guess that this means a 4" pin to PAP with a 3" CG to PAP.

Think this is where they are going with that..

Place your Pin 4 inches from PAP and make sure that the pin placement puts it 3 inches about the center or your grip...

If no extra hole is wanted...cd would have to be very near center of grip....or slightly left or right.....

My Desert is 5x3, or very close, and is very smooth off the break with tons of hit at the deck. Great drill for the ball in my opinion.

Hey cd,

I'm thinking that Chuck meant 4 inch pin to pap keeping the pin 3 inches above the mid line. "Without a weight hole", he means to not shift cg that far off so we do not create more then the ounce allowance.

On edit: Main key behind not wanting a weight hole is to not take a chance on increasing the differential which will then increase the hook. We don't want to really to create more flare on our harder equipment, unless of course it is a gap ball to fit perfectly into a large arsenal.

Sorry, not sure if I made myself clear enough on this. You can place the cg left or right depending upon your desired static weight. Whether you want some negative, zero or positive side weight, it's up to you. Just don't shift it out too far to where it will require a weight hole, that's what is meant by this.

The 3 inches above mid line is basically intended for more of a pin out situation. Generically speaking, a 3 inch pin above midline would place most at least at the finger level to maybe above it (as in my case, I have a shorter span). Hope this answers your question.
