Phenom Unleashed , AMF Triumph AMP , and Fear Factor
« on: December 16, 2003, 08:10:02 AM »
Hello all ,
I need a little assistance. I am looking to buy a new heavy oil ball , or possibally two depending on the balls characteristics , and i have been given a few ball choices that would be good to me , but some people give me totally different info than others do. I was recommended to try a triumph amp , a phenom unleashed and a fear factor by a few different people. But not one person whom suggested these balls had thrown any of them , so i dont consider their judgement to be very educated. Can somebody please tell me the difference in characteristics between these balls?? from what im told , the triumph amp and the phenom unl. are pretty similar , long and turning a hard corner.. but from some people i hear that the fear factor is a lengthy ball with a smooth turn and from some i hear that it has alot of length with a sharp turn... i have even been told that it is not a very good heavy oil ball at all but even a medium oil ball , i have pretty much ruled that possibility out simply because i have only heard about this being too strong for anything but heavy. So if anybody has any educated input to these balls please let me know , id like to get the most out of what i buy! thanks alot!

I currently have the Phenom Unleashed and the Fear Factor. Depending on the bowler's ball speed, the Phenom Unleashed can be an oil ball, but for, it is not an oil ball----it is more for heavy to medium. I have high ball speed. Now, the better choice from Track for an oil ball is the Phenom. The Fear Factor rolls up a little sooner than the Unleashed but is not as strong on the backend.

I have not thrown the amp----------so I am of no help with that ball.

If you are set on the balls you have listed, go with the Fear Factor (if you have higher ball speed). The Phenom is better for oil than the Phenom Unleashed. I can use the Unleashed in oil if I square up, but it is not as strong on the long stuff as the Phenom.

I hope this info helps.

The Triump Amp does NOT belong in the same group as the Phenom Unleashed and the Fear Factor. It is a medium-light to maybe medium oil ball. It does not handle much  oil at oil, definitely less than the originla Triumph which was more like the Inferno. A teammate on Friday uses it sometimes and he has maximum revolutions. It goes long and flips pretty hard, but is fairly oil allergic: typical pearl.

Thanks alot for the responses !
Im not necesarilly stuck on the balls ive listed.. these are just some balls ive already been suggested , im just looking for a hard turn , i throw the ball about 16 - 17 mph , so if that helps you with any suggestions then thatd be great. Im not a supporter of any one particular ball , i have open ears to any suggestions. Ive made a decision that if im gonna go with a track , then im goin with the phenom and not the unleashed , and triumph instead of the amp.. any more help would be great

If you're looking for a heavy oil ball from Track, the Phenom is far better than the Phenom Unleashed from what I have seen.

As far as the true heaviest hitters on the market for oil, the Warp Zone from Brunswick is getting high marks from everyone. If you have a ton of extra cash to blow, you might want to try a Super Carbide Bomb by Lane 1.

Fear Factor could work, but from my experience with Storm covers, you'd have to take extra care to keep it from getting matted with oil.

Interesting. I just got a Fear Factor and it reacts nice. Just
like what storm wanted. A ball that rol continuous and never stops unless
it burns out completely. Now i have a ball for oil. I am thinking about getting an Unleashed also. I hard it has a good backend and doesn't burn up too early.
I plan on polishing it up.

Would it be a good ball down to go to from the Fear Factor if i need a little more backend and length?

What do you guys think?
