track tantrum: skid snap?
« on: March 08, 2009, 11:06:32 PM »
BTM's review of the tantrum gives the impression that it has a very angular move on the backend. for those of you who own it what are your opinions of this ball, how do you have it drilled, did you change the surface and what is your style? also, does it have a predictable read or does it make a sudden move?

I bowl with a guy that has a Tantrum with the pin over the ring finger and the cg kicked out a little and for a solid cover ball it makes a very strong move on the backend. I'm not sure it would fit the typical skid snap description but very close. I've been wanting one for a while but haven't pulled the trigger. Of the Tantrums I've seen used they a very strong on a medium shot. On heavier oil I don't think they would be as effective unless dulled. On dry the check up too early to dominate that condition.

See my profile as I have links to pictures of all my stuff.

I drilled a Tantrum in September for a specific condition. I wanted length and a more controlled reaction. What I got was skid snap. I went to a 4000 cover polished w/ Magic Shine. Don't really know If I like the ball like that as I put it aside and started throwing my older reactives.

I'm rev dominant. This ball is angular. I like how the ball rolls. It's just not what I wanted for that house condition.

I think I will take it back to 1000 and polish w/Magic Shine

RCKYURWLD,

If you feel like experimenting, and you still have this ball, may I suggest this as a possibility:

Use about a 5.5" - 6" pin to PAP (pin in or above the middle finger hole and MB at about a 45 degree angle to control the backend. I've used this a few times recently (My current PAP and revs and release are not too far from yours. My profile is not yet updated.) and the results have been more ... controlled than my typical drill which is pin in or above ring finger (4"-4.5" pin to PAP) and CG/MB at 60 - 75 degrees which provides more flip than arc. 45 degree CG or MB provides more arc-like reaction.

If necessary, Track's Delayed Reaction ball polish is a definite help is reducing the backend of many overly aggressive ball reactions.

I have to completely agree with RCKYURWLD!!! Was looking for a ball that I could play up the boards with, the extrem outside!! Ball was drilled pin at 6" under my longfinger and mb at 4". I thought that flare reduced layout would go into roll early and make a nice pop at the backend. Instead I got length with a move I´ve never seen before, not skid flip but very strong! Very hard to control on most fresh patterns! Maybe it will be good on some carrydown because of the lenght I´ve got!! Look at my profile for more stats!

Hope this helps a little.

P.S Not a bad ball just not what I expected

Snake the layout you have on your tantrum will work great for a dry lane. However the type of dry lanes would be the type where the heads are gone and you need something to get through them. If you use it on a lane with good head and fresh backends you will see it get down lane very easy and really flip. This is due to the 6" pin to pay distance. If you want to control the backend of the ball you need to go closer to your PAP with the pin say 2" or less. This will also reduce the flare but because of the pin being so close to PAP the ball will roll and not really turn over real strong. It will be strong enough to help it set up but not to strong to where it flips out the house. This is also a dry lane layout. However keep in mind there are different kinds of dry lanes.

Mine is drilled 4.25" x 4"MB x 2" Pin Buffer  OOB finish...

IMO it's not that angular, more like a strong arc...

My Kinetic is definitely more angular...

Mine was very skid snap mine was drilled with tracks only recommended drilling for that ball. It was very easy to get it to slide through breakpoint way to speed sensitive for me. Kinetic Pearl was ten times better ball for me with same drilling as tantrum.

Mine has a fairly smooth controllable backend as well.  Was recommended the
Kinetic Pearl if you want something w/ a more pronounced backend.

I have 3 Tantrums.
1 at 6" with MB at 90 Degrees
1 at 7" with MB at 90 Degrees
1 at 4 1/2" mb at 45 Degrees.

They are all great pieces for different patterns/lengths and breakpoint shapes.
the 6" and 7" pins are the newest adn I am really enjoying what I can do with them on alot of patterns I wouldnt think they would work on but they do.
