Track Tundra ball reaction video. Fun ball
« on: December 20, 2016, 10:00:39 PM »
Drilled up the new Track Tundra to have as a great option on drier conditions. Wanted to use a layout specific for drier conditions that I may come across bowling longer events or over the summer etc.

Drilled the ball with the pin 5.5" from my PAP above the fingers. Added a flare reducing weight hole 2" in from my PAP. The weight hole is 7/8" in size by 2.5" deep.

Video was shot on our usual fresh house shot. At box finish the ball was pretty impressive. I will probably slightly adjust the surface later, but for now want to keep the box finish to use in a few different centers and occasions to see how it goes. Eventually I will knock the shine off with a used 2000 siaair pad and leave that has my regular finish.

Still early and looking forward to getting some more practice in with this fun new ball from Track.

It is no longer a surprise to leave anything on the back row these days lol.

Watching the video in slow motion it appears the 5 pin goes straight back instead of going over into the 8 pin....doesn't make you feel any better after leaving it.

5" straight across.

Interesting. That weight hole looked like a P2 hole or close to it. (My PAP is also 5" x 0".) I thought a P2 weight hole was neutral in its effect on the differentials, not flare reducing. I thought I remembered a P1 hole as flare reducing. I say "looked" because I don't know the exact location.
Was it close to the PAP?
(Again just curious, I have not used any flare reducing holes in along time. Sounds like a potentially useful factor.)
A friend who is getting good use from a Tundra is urging me to try one, and I am considering that option.

The gradient line systems goes up and down your VAL mostly, and the p2 would be on the bowlers PAP.

The weight hole for the Tundra is 3" from my center grip, 2" further past the x-hole is my PAP. It may look deceiving in the picture.

This is the first time I have used this weight hole location, and I have been impressed with the reaction.

Most get hung up on the name that it is a reducing x-hole and think the ball will not hook. It tightens up the flare rings giving the ball more length and a faster response when it reaches friction. Too many people get hung up on more being more(especially in ball flare) and that isn't always the case.

The great thing about this is you can drill any ball up and use for a bit and decide if you want to add the wight hole or not after seeing the ball on the lane. It requires very little side weight in the ball because of it being closer to the  bowlers grip center.

I know you have probably seen this video before, but it is worth watching again and seeing if it might be the ball reaction you are looking for.

OK, yes, that would be a flare reducing hole.

Yes, of course, it is flare reducing, not flare removing. :)

Agreed. Heck, even if the final statics went to negative side weight, it would matter very little.

Yes, been a long time since I've seen that.
Basically I didn't know your weight hole wasn't on your PAP. I had not thought about that location, since i first learned this weight hole concept.
Thanks.

No problem. I just double checked and the center of the weight hole is 3.25" from my center grip line not 3". In the pics it looks like it could easily be on someones pap. I definitely recommend trying it for anyone interested.

Is there any noticeable difference between the Tundra and other similar balls like the Nitrous, new Rhinos, and so on?

Ive thrown Slingshots, Strike Kings,  Nitrious, and now the Tundra. I'd say they are all within a few boards of each other. All have very similar covers and cores. I have an undrilled Cyclone I've not tried yet.

My Nitrious,  Slingshot, and Strike King were all on the Rico layout. It's easy for me to say they are all very close. This Tundra is something a little different with the layout/xhole I've not tried before. I haven't seen anything from it that makes me think it would be any stronger or weaker then the others listed.

I've thrown some different Vibes and would safely say they were stronger then any of these listed. From what I've read the Cyclone is also a lot of ball for the price point. It's all about coverstock. The Cyclone with GB10.7 and the various covers used on the Vibes it makes sense.

Cyclone IS a lot of ball!

Can be drilled about an inch weaker to start to get close to the performance of these other lower flare balls.

Yesterday me with a 4 inch pin to PAP Avalanche pearl had a similar reaction to a Cyclone drilled 5 1/2 an inch over the bridge!
