Trilogy Updates?
« on: November 29, 2016, 10:24:54 PM »
We're about two and a half months from the last Trilogy topics and I was wondering how those who have that ball still feel about it. Unfortunately it appears that my Mastermind Intellect (purchased in March) is cracking and with an EBI demo day coming up I might be focusing in on something in that mold. Looking like the Trilogy is going to be the best bet to try out. But there's only so much you can learn from that small sample-size.

How strong is it off the end of the pattern after a couple months of use? The Intellect has a really nice move on the backend, even with heavier volumes of oil, and I would like something similar. The Scandal Pearl and Mission Unknown will be there too. Would either of those be a better option for what I described above?

I don't own the Trilogy so I can't weigh in on that part unfortunately. What I will say is that I think "the" EBI ball to pick up at the moment is the Scandal Pearl. I already bought a Primal Fear, otherwise I would have gotten one. For what you're looking for, I would think the Trilogy or Scandal Pearl could work laid out and surfaced accordingly.

If you bought the Mastermind in March it's still under warranty. I think the first Paradox would be closer in reaction to the Intellect. Intellect is a strong ball.

From what I've seen thrown of the Trilogy at box finish much cleaner and doesn't handle as much oil. At box finish.

I'm hoping they do something. It's not even cracking from any of the holes, actually starting in an arc near touching pin and gradually rounding down towards the fingers. Haven't seen that before.

My plan was always to buy something at the demo day so I was thinking about getting the Intellect replacement there on a good deal. Then hopefully getting and using the credit for it being under warranty and using it on something in the mold I was originally planning for.

Thanks for the Trilogy info. I kind of thought it might be cleaner and weaker than the Intellect. The box finish on those two probably isn't that different. Hmm, decisions decisions....

Honestly, I think you should be looking at the Midsion Unknown. That ball has similar properties to your Intellect. The Trilogy wouldn't be bad, I just don't know if it's close enough since I have only seen two go fown the lane in person.

If the Mission Unknown can handle a good amount of oil I would be all for it. I'm not sure that it can though, there haven't been very many of them sold at all in my area so no first person experience for me. Which is kind of strange since EBI is pretty big around here (along with Storm), but it is what it is.

I'm not really looking for a house shot backend ball, my Unhinged fills that slot pretty well if I start carrying it again. More like something angular for the longer and/or heavier patterns. The Intellect does that so well. :'(

I think it was on here though that somebody mentioned their Unknown was stronger than their Trilogy so who knows.

I agree with what was posted above. The original Paradox is a phenomenal ball and would be the closest in the track line. You could also look into the Cyborg with a stronger layout and some added surface or Tyrant and Warrior Elite. All 3 are good asyms in the EBI brand. Trilogy is pretty decent but not a huge amount of buzz behind it.

The thing I would be concerned about with the Paradox, Cyborg, Tyrant, and Warrior Elite is that they are all too close to a Jackal LE. I have one of those sitting on my floor waiting to be drilled and I don't want to buy something that's too similar. Changes to the coverstock could be made but I don't know if that would necessarily turn any of those balls into something with a really strong move on the backend. Handling oil obviously isn't a concern but that's only half the the equation.

If it helps here's what my full arsenal would look like after getting everything ready to go:

Jackal LE
Mastermind Intellect
Arson Hybrid
Unhinged
Outcry
Shout (2013)

I kind of have an earlier reaction/ball with surface and a later reaction/ball with polish pair for heavier, medium, and lighter volumes of oil. I don't carry all of them with me for league but I like to have a mix of those options to choose from for various tournament conditions. They're starting to come up more often now so it's something that needs to be addressed ASAP.

With the Intellect cracking that's my most important hole to fill (replace) at the moment. It was the Arson Hybrid before this latest development, but like I said before with a demo day coming up and the good deals that go with it I might opt for an Intellect replacement there. Then use the warranty credit (hopefully) for a new medium oil, earylish benchmark ball in a few weeks.

So I'm really hoping the Trilogy, Scandal Pearl, and Mission Unknown/Cyborg Pearl could fit what I'm looking for since three of those four balls will be at the demo day.  ;D Otherwise it's most likely the X-Treme Heat or Rebel/Rebel Solid (only one of those two will be there) and then waiting a while for the credit to come in. If that's the case I'm probably going with a No Rules Pearl.

I really appreciate the comments thus far though. A variety of input is great and why I like to ask around here.

If it comes to getting a ball with credit, sure. That will be an option to be considered with the No Rules Pearl. I'm not entirely positive it's still in production though or if the distributor my pro shop has any in stock. Nobody in my area has any 900 Global balls on the shelf. Don't have much interest ordering balls online either.

Yeah, the demo day is tomorrow but I ended up getting a Grudge Hybrid drilled last night. Too good of a deal to pass up for something that seems like it will at least roughly fit the hole I'm pegging it into. Very likely getting an Absolute Nirvana drilled up tonight as well also because of a deal I can't pass up. Looks like the Jackal LE will sit undrilled for a while longer...

But depending on what I actually get out of the Grudge Hybrid I might still look into the Scandal Pearl, Dream On, Paradox Trilogy etc. with the eventual warranty credit (hopefully, knock on wood) coming in. An asymmetric or stronger symmetric that's really clean up front would fit well with those other two. Keep the Absolute Nirvana at a low grit, Grudge Hybrid around 4000, then come in with something polished. Don't usually stack my arsenal like that but it doesn't sound like a bad idea.
