trying to find the best ball between Rule and Hot Wire
« on: January 16, 2005, 01:54:04 PM »
Once again I'm relying on the Track people to see what they would think would be a good ball for a seperation between my polished Rule and out of box Hot Wire. Drilling specs for both balls are in my profile as well as my style. The bowling coach that I am seeing had a high recommendation for an Exception, and another guy that I talk to from the site recommended that if I want to get one that would give me a different look than what I have from the Rule and Hot Wire, to place to pin under the bridge and put the MB in the strong position.

The dilemma that I face is I've also heard good things about the Brunswick Nemesis in terms of a stronger ball than the Hot Wire with a little bit better back end strength.

Being more of a down and in player I would like at least one medium ball that I can open up the lane a little better with...

Any help/ suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Matt

Matt,

So much of the layout would depend on your game bud. But I believe that the Xception is an awesome ball to open up the lanes with. This ball has mind boggling backend. Look at all of the bowling balls I have reviewed....nothing is even close to the backend that this ball has. In comparison to the Nemesis.....the Xception will open up a lane better. The Nemesis tends to not handle oil as well at the Xception. Go with what your coach says. The Xception is going to give you a different look from what you have currently......and it will fit right where you need it to.

Got to agree with EX on this one.  IF you want to stick with Track Matt the Exception would be the most logical choice out of there current offerings.  We could probably get a polished Phenom Unleashed to work, but the EX was made to compliment the Rule so why fight it?

I actually have one sitting at home waiting to get drilled when I finalize my grip changes.  I've been talking with some of the NEBA guys about this ball and they all are saying some very impressive things about it.

Matt,

If you decide on the Xception, make sure you get someone truly knowledgable like EX or tenpinspro to lay it out for you!!!

EX,

I still wonder if a polished solid resin would not be more appropriate for mediums/medium-heavy, than a pearl/high gloss flippier ball, like the Xception. Mediums may have some carrydown or wet/drys that makes polished solid like a Freak-a-Zoid type ball more useful. It may not be the backend monster that the Xception is, but it's certainly not trivial. Trying to err on the side of caution here.

In this situation, I think the X-Ception would fit with no problem, just as Ex has stated. However, I also do agree with charlest as I have always believed a dull ball is much more versatile than a pearl, and in charles is stating, someone looking for a specific fit could get more benefits from buying a dull ball and being able to change covers more easily. It is a matter of preference, but I do believe either way would work.

Matt,

I also think an Xception would fit the bill here. In fact, I bet coach recommended that ball cause he saw me throwing mine!!

In any case, you have seen me throw mine and you saw how much backend the ball has. It is the perfect ball for opening up the lanes, just get it drilled accordingly.

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone noticed that he said polished Rule?  I agree that the Xception is a great ball and is a natural compliment to a box Rule, but it's possible that on some conditions the Xception may outhook his Rule because of the pearl cover.  However, this would possibly put them too close together and limits his options.

A Slash might be a better compliment.  It's strong, and it's a symetrical ball that will give him a different look than the Rule and can still open up the lane.      Lastly, it's a different cover formulation going from strongest to weakest.  GOO->PowerPlus->AccuTread

Hey Matt,

Decisions, decisions, decisions....  As we spoke on this before, if you match the cover and maybe weaken the pattern slightly on the Xception (compared to the Rule), it should still give you a good separation between the two (my two are exactly in this position now).  Also by weakening the mb position of the Xception, this will help control the backend some so you won't have a hook monster on the back.  In comparison to the Nemesis, because of it's earlier roll tendencies, it may be a little close to the Rule.  May not be bad polished up though.

The other alternative I believe I suggested was the FreakaZoid (like Charlest says).  I think at the time we spoke, the Slash wasn't out yet.  Between this and the Slash (achappy's pick), these 2 are very nice medium balls that also fill that gap without having to do a lot of tweaking, maybe just some lite polishing.  The hard part here is that there are quite a few mid-range balls that would fit and should work nicely in there.  I think the main part in your decision making is to decide on what type of reaction "you" want from it.  Length and strong backend or controlled arc.  Hope I didn't complicate things..
