What Ball???
« on: September 27, 2005, 08:20:43 AM »

I'm looking for a ball to fill a gap, I need something for med- med/heavy with carrydown/ poor backends, was considering a D/T High Energy, but the Rule and the Delta 1 have caught my eye. I bowl about 16mph stroker medium revs 45deg axis but I can vary axis and play 1st to 4th arrows depending on oil and backend so I'm quite versatile.Would either of these suit my needs, I am looking for a ball thats not polished as I have what I need in polished balls.I need something that wiil start slightly earlier but will still be strong when my polidhed balls are not quite making the turn.

Thanks.

From what I have seen when the ball is used, the Track Slash would be a good gap ball for med-hev, with some carry down. You can always sand/polish if its to much or to less. Never be afraid to adjust the cover! (thanks Rick lol)

Thanks for the replies, interesting suggestion of the Slash, the only Track ball I've had was the Triton Elite and loved it, this seems to be an update of this ball with added zest, anyone confirm this??? if so and it can handle poor backends then it may be what I'm looking for.

It is essentially the Elite as you have pointed out. It is a great medium ball, and honestly, I have not really encountered carrydown with this ball for the simple fact it was the first ball out of my bag and thus the condition was fresh. As Six points out, reactives can tend to shoot past the break as they just can not tread the carrydown (my Untameds were a prime example) but the same core with a particle cover (Mutant) was a killer on about everything you could find. I like the Slash for mediums/benchmark, but with carrydown, you may need something like the Delta (yes, reactive, but the core will help) or a light load particle, which would be the Aggressive.

Thanks clint, the more I hear the aggressive seems to be the ball to get, what would be a good drill to get decent length with a hard arc at the breakpoint.I take it by your reply the Aggressive is light load particle my only other particle ball was the Apex Addiction how would they compare.

Thanks.

I have bowled the best I have ever bowled in those conditions (med/med, Med/Carrydown, Heavy/carrydown) with the GP2. I am a stroker also!!!!

BTW, I have an old addiction also and I will see if I can dig it up and try it against my GP2!!! Though, I doubt there will be any comparision!!! I wasnt much impressed with my Addiction but, my GP2 is my most favorite ball I have ever owned!!!!

Particles are usually the best for carrydown however I feel the arsenal reactive would be a great choice.  My arsenal reactive is so strong that there's no way carrydown will ever be an issue with this ball.

The light load particles are to me, some of the best balls on the market. Not enough particle load to make it want to roll in your backswing, but just enough to help it tread through oil better. The Arsenal Aggressive is the ONLY light load particle solid we have, as the Blue and GP2 are medium loads. Thus the reason why I have been asking for the Aggressive cover on the GP2 core...the Peak is AWESOME, and I wonder how that core would react with a lighter load of particle in it.

Not to step on anyones toes, but I don't feel comfortable with suggesting an Arsenal Reactive on carrydown for 2 reasons:
1. its reactive
2. With the low rg, it is trying to do LOTS early in the lane, if you drill it accordingly, the ball will not have as much backend as a ball with a higher rg already, and add the carrydown, and I think it may get squirty on you....but...I don't know for sure as I have yet to throw mine on much of anything really, just going off past experiences and knowledge.

Hey Ratpack,

Actually, all the choices mentioned are good.  I feel the better key behind eating thru carrydown is not to get backend strength but more midlane read so a ball can start to pick up sooner and finish with a normal reaction vs trying to have it fight in the last 20 ft.  A strong particle like the GP or Aggressive is good but so are the Delta 1 or Reactive.  The Delta 1 even being resin has a very strong cover and the Reactive having a lower rg can also pick up sooner.

This really depends on how much oil you have.  Question, what ball are you throwing now that cannot eat thru the carrydown?  This will give us a better picture of the ball strength that you need, thanks.

Thanks for the help everyone, at the moment I'm using a D/T au79 polished, i have thought of sanding it but I bowl more than one centre and it works great elsewhere.I'm open to more suggestions, I reckon you can never stop learning in this game.

Added on edit; the au79 is drilled 4x4 stacked and is box finish.Just got back from league and used my addiction for a 608 series same problem with au79, trouble was getting the addiction in oil long enough to stop it burning out, nea ball needs to fit between this gap.

Ratpack,

I like the Delta 1 for what you need. The Arsenal Reactive wouldn't be bad, but if the Delta 1 is drilled for backend and you keep the OOB finish I doubt carrydown will be an issue.

I haven't had a problem with carrydown with the reactive at all.  The arsenal reactive is really something to see.  This ball is very strong and won't be problem with carry down because of how early it wants to roll.
