Mitch Besley. He was mentioned on the telecast this weekend, he earned exemption on the Denny's PBA Tour and is defering it until 2007 to serve in the military. Surprised your not all glowing with pride in him.


I am not a huge supporter but i would be proud of someone to put aside a life time dream to support his country's military efforts.

this is being mentioned here because he is a track staffer i believe.

I know he posts on here infrequently.

Calm down big guy. No one is doubting your patriotism or any others for that matter. However it isn't often that someone that is making MILLIONS of dollars decides to give that up to go fight a war that he isn't really sure why he is fighting. It isn't often that you hear about someone getting a shot to bowl on tour and defer it to finish out his military obligation. That my friend is what we are talking about here. Not if our brothers and sisters in the Armed Forces are patriots or not! When adults and even small children come up to me and thank me for serving I get a feeling that is almost inexplicable! That is more than I could ever ask for. If you are in the military to get recognition or fame then you have chosen the wrong career. What we do is important and impacts the WORLD not just the USA. That in itself makes me proud.

I would like to thank all of you for your support. I need to clarify a few things about my situation.
 
 I didn't just join the Air Force, I have been on active duty in the Air Force for 18 and a half years. I was a crew chief on C-130 aircraft for 15 years and have deployed almost every year overseas. I spent the last three years in Texas recruiting for the Air Force and I just moved to Seattle to work with Applicants that are joining at a processing station.

 I did not have a choice of whether on not to get out of the service to go on tour. My commitment goes until the end of next year. I have missed a lot of tournaments and spent a lot of time in places that don't have bowling alleys over the last 18 years of service. I don't regret any of my time in service  because I chose to make that commitment to my country. I am very thankful to the PBA to give me the opportunity to defer my exemption for a year because I can not, and would not, get out of my commitment.

 I have sacrificed a lot for my time and sweat for our country but anything I have went through is nothing compared to a lot of my fellow service members. I have a lot of friends in service that have been in harms way and have not had the opportunity to come home safe. If you want to say something about me that is okay but please don't say anything bad about our service members protecting our way of life and risking there life for us. Hopefully I can represent my fellow service members; and all who have supported me; well on Tour next year.

 I would ask all of you will keep our service members in your prayers until all are out of harms way.

Revmaster22 this is for you.....Stop whinning.
I was in college when 9/11 happened, and like alot of people I knew I was also in the Nat'l Guard.  I joined the Guards for many reasons, one was for help with college, the other was to serve my country like my dad did in the vietnam war.  When the war broke out alot of college kids in the guards thought "what did I get myself into"  I couldn't believe what I was hearing.  They all joined the guards to pay for college and cakewalk through their duty.  Me, I served my time with pride because that is what I signed up for.  I didn't do it to get respect, or fame, or awards.  I served my time and went home knowing I did my job the best I could.  I can't say the same for some of the other kids I knew, they did everthing they could to get out, and the ones that did get sent over, cried the whole time they were there saying "I didn't sign up for this".  So to say that only celebrities get their name in the public, I say bull*&#@.  Big deal, who cares.  Serve your country because that is what you want to do, and let the media worry about the next front page story.
