What should I take with me. I'm looking for ideas.
« on: April 14, 2006, 03:22:59 PM »
This year, for the first time, I'm bowling in the New Mexico State tournament. I've never bowling in a state tourney before, simply because I just didn't feel I really belonged, and it was usually some distance away. Well, I've finally gotten my average up to the mid 180's and I think it's time. (I've been bowling for 14 years...I started late.) So.......what should I take with me to a tournament?

I'm thinking of taking my Machine, RoboRule, and GP2 for certain. That leaves one spot open (not counting my spare ball). So...I have a choice from amongst a Hex-plosion, Xception, Xception 5.0, Rule, Desert Heat. I'm leaning towards the Xception as I don't figure the lanes will be bone dry, hence the Desert Heat probably won't be needed. So, what do you think? Any ideas, advice, help! :-)

The only bit of advice I can give you is....if you have it....take it.  There's nothing worse than going to a tournie and bowling and thinking wow if I only had such and such a ball with me I could have matched up.

You say you don't think you'll see bone dry, but....you don't know that for sure...just some advice for you.

Hey Chuck,

I agree with SGC if possible to just take what you can and leave it in the car. If you're flying and limited to 4 balls, I'd go with the Desert Heat just in case they are toasted....

If it were me I would take the Robo, Machine, Exception, and Desert.
You should be able to cover virtually any condition you would see.

Chuck,

When and where is the NM State tourney this year? I think it is in Albuquerque correct?

From my experiences with NM State and bowling up in Albuquerque quite a bit..(I live in southern NM) I would take the following.....

1) Robo Rule - This may not leave your bag but just in case they actually but a good deal of oil..
2) Machine
3) Xception (this is always in play in Albuquerque)
4) Desert Heat

Think this will really cover all you are going to see.

I agree with all of the above.  In my opinion there is no reason to take the Robo and the GP2.  I would pick one between the 2 (which ever one you are more comfortable with) and take that Machine, Xception, and the Desert Heat.  In my opinon that would gave you a nice little 4 ball arsenal that should be able to handled anything they throw at you.

The question isn't why do I throw all Track, it's why don't you.

Arsenal includes:
Rule GP2, Rule Delta 1, Heat Blast, Triton Heat,  Desert Heat, Blue Enforcer

I have to say once again, find a way to take all of them....no reason to think..man, only if I would have brought ____  with me, I would have killed this shot....however, if you can only take one more, I would have to say the Desert....if they dry out or you are bowling 2nd shift, you will need something to get down the lane for you...

Even if you do not think you'll need a dry ball, it doesn't hurt to have it. I would take as many as you can, but you have to cover the spectrum from oily to dry.

If you don't mind a piece of advice, learn to use your "Dry" ball for your spare ball.  Then, you can eliminate that spot in the bag, and take another weapon with you.

I'm not familiar with Track stuff, but never, ever, go to a tournament without something for the dry.  There may be 2 or 3 squads ahead of you before oiling, so you may see bone dry, even if first shift doesn't.  (tournaments can be very "unfair" in terms of who gets what oil.)
