Finally a member of the Track family!
« on: March 18, 2005, 03:48:20 AM »
Picked up an Animal from pjr300 and I can't wait to get it drilled up.  I've wanted one since my summer league when I heard this thing shatter the deck from the other end of the center!!  Anyway, I don't want to drill this up to be strictly a heavy oiler -- I want it for a more angular look at the med. heavies than my Rush gives me.  If I keep it pin above and right of ring with MB about 2" right of thumb but polish it up some, will that work??  I'm a med.-high mph/higher rev. bowler shooting for about a 45* axis rotation and not too much tilt.  Sorry don't know exact numbers or my PAP.

Nollster,

Box finish on the Animal is not polish, it is compound (Track's Clean n Sheen). If you have to go with polish, then sand it down to about 800, then apply a light coat of polish.

I also feel that 1000 grit wetsand would work really well. It will get down the lane "decently", but as long as you keep it in some oil long enough it will backend well.

Polish and the Animal are not a good mix. The polish does not allow it to pick up the early roll that it naturally wants to accomplish. And the particles in the cover of the Animal are too large for it to backend very strongly.

I had requested them to put it back to box finish (from what looked like a 600 grit) -- apparently they misunderstood what I wanted.  The roll I was getting was just like my Eraser PP (polished to like 2500) when I first got it.  Skid to about 50ft., but not enough room to recover.  Had it wet sanded to 1000 and it's schweet!!  What I couldn't believe was how much the Animal revs -- it's right up there with most of my Roto stuff!!

Now that's what I'm talking about!!  Had my Animal taken down to 1000 grit (Abralon pad) and MUCH better!!  Thing revs up in a hurry with a very easy to read break.  Everything was carrying pretty well -- I think I'm going to LOVE this ball!!

Good to hear.

When it is set a lower grit, try keeping it in the oil awhile....it will amaze you in every aspect of the the way it will react

Hey Nollster,

Same here bud, glad to hear.  The Animal to me still has one of the most versatile covers because mine at 400 for heavy oil never burned up or out at all.  The spin time was high enough to help retain its psa very well.
