rule help once again

if you don't remember, i have slow to medium speed, medium to lower revs. My rule is drilled pin under finger mb near or past val with a weight hole under it, i have tryed polishing it but that did nothing, My home lanes for high school lay down a heavy flat pattern because my coach ask for it cause he thinks we have a better chance against a harder team to not have a wall i don't know if a agree with that but we are unbeaten so far, but what i have noticed is when the ball gets into a roll it seems to be against the the roll i put on the ball it more frontal then i would like, its not burning up though.

What can i do now?

Well, with a heavy flat pattern, I don't know if a Rule in general is the right ball for you. I know when I hit the HEAVY stuff, flat or not, one of my dull Animals or the Phenom is my first ball out. Dull particle cover to help it fight the oil. The Rule is more of a medium- medium heavy ball. If you have it polished still, knock the polish off. The new GP2 would be a good choice as well, but I do not have mine yet. A new ball for you may be your best choice. If that is not possible, sand the Rule to different grits until you can get a reaction that will work for you. As you probably already know, Track balls in general take cover chandes very well.

What you are seeing is probably correct. With that kind of layout the MB is pulling the ball almost right away. Getting it into this kind of roll is awesome to have in an arsenal, but it is usually not an "everyday" ball. If you want to keep using it as much as possible the only solution you have is to keep working with the cover until you get the desired reaction. Personally...I would leave it alone. If you hit a road match or tournament where nothing is turning the corner the Rule with this layout will fair better.

I have tryed it on all sorts of different shots i have tryed it on the heavy stuff when it was dull i have tryed it polished on more dryer stuff. Hmm there is a animal at my pro shop on sale for $178, i was thinking that i was not ready for a high load ball yet but seance my coach feels like he needs to pay the lane man off so score's stay low and it becomes harder to strike and more of a spare game for us to win and take conference and he will probably be my coach for the next 3 years, lets just hope there is a few outside dry boards tomorrow so i can get by with my big blue until i get things figured out.

I like the Animal, and that is not a bad price.

Let me ask you this....what does the Rule do when you are at a road match?

well i have bowled at all the lanes that are on the Schedule  in the past so i know how they play pretty good, i have tryed the ball at 3 of the 6 different allys most are just regular christmas tree medium oil the ball was just to front rolly for me no matter what, some times its a slight better but still i could not see myself doing very well with it for what i have seen so far, i could see it come in handy someday down the road.

Hi Nick,

Ex is exactly correct.  As we place the mb on to past val, that placement is designed to "lose" axis rotation sooner so the ball is doing exactly what it is supposed to.  It's supposed to get into a roll faster.

I'd suggest getting the Animal (drill it like the Rule) and plug the Rule (redrill) to get more length and backend reaction out of it.  The Rule can become more of a med-med/heavy ball (like Clint states) and more usable on most conditions IMHO.  Keep the Animal for heavy shots only, hope this helps some.

Redrill the rule like Rick said. Pick a drill pattern that will retain energy (axis rotation also)better especially since you don't have a lot of revs or speed. For the heavy flat pattern remember that it is not a high scoring enviroment usually so just staying in the pocket is key.Carry is icing on the cake.

I got it redrilled, but the pin is like 2 1/2 inches to the side of finger, and mb inch from my thumb, it works pretty good i was not playing the shot very well today until the end with it so i will see how it works tomorrow

I don't have any balls with the pin that far away, what does that mean?

That really depends on your PAP location. Odds are that the ball is now set up to roll very early (with the pin placement), but the MB placement is most likely going to help it move as strong as it will (that pin placement) at the breakpoint.

so what do you think it will do if the pin is going to make it roll very early and the mb is going make it hook late, what kind of reaction you think it will have

i tryed it today, It was much better it covers quite a few more boards then my big blue and i did not leave a 10 pin at all today so thats good, im really happy with it, its doing  what i wanted it to do, i think i need to buy an xception down the road

i still can't get over i did not leave any 10 pins, it usally 10 pin hell for slower speed strokers like me

Hey Nick,

I couldn't agree more.  I have a good friend who tests out new balls and when he leaves corners consistently keeps saying that he's not executing or coming out clean.  IMHO, if I execute and throw "any" ball correctly, I "should" strike.  I look for the mistake shots that carry.  Like when I top it little or not hit it correctly and it still carrys, that's a hard hitting ball for me.  I want to see the margin of error I have...at this current point, I make probably the equal amount of mistakes that I make good shots..  Glad to hear it's working better for you...
