What to do about my teammate?!?!?
« on: April 06, 2005, 01:00:34 AM »
Not necessarily Track related, but I'll make it when he's using his Animal to make it fit better.  He's been trying to get back to how he was bowling in '97, why, I don't know.  He was well over 200 last year with some very big numbers on occassion.  This year he's under 200 with a lot of very small games.  It seems the biggest changes he's made were to slow his ball speed and throw it out wider.  When he's using his Animal, I think he's burning it up on the outside as he has decent revs, but the ball just doesn't make it back with any oomph!!  Occassionally, he gets ticked at how he's bowling and you'll see an increase in ball speed and a more inside line -- WHAM! -- right in the pocket for a killer strike.  He says "That's not what I wanted to do!"?!?!?  WTF!?!?!  First, am I right in saying the ball's burning up on him?  He's got the Animal at box condition and, although we have long, decent oil, it's still a THS and is pretty dry wide.  Second, how do I, a two year bowler with many hours logged here, tell someone who's a 30+ year bowler what's going on?

Nollster,

You could always try to send him here to ask.

I would say the Animal is probably burning up. The Animal is not meant to play very extreme angles. If that is what he is wanting to do it may need polished up a bit, or it could be set up to roll early, which would be another reason it is not making the turn. As you see there are possible reasons.

Thanks.  Not sure if he's got access to the internet or not -- if he did, I'd have sent him here long ago.  He's got his Animal set up the same as mine -- pin above ring, MB right of thumb and weight hole on PAP.  It makes me crazy watching him -- if he keeps it in tight, he's got 10 in the pit.  When he tries to swing it so much, IF he strikes, it's usually not a pretty one.  He definitely splits way more often that way....Makes me nuts!!

nollster, sounds like he's trying to make a major adjustment in his form, one that HE believes will provide consistency and power later.  Many times when I make changes to my form (usually after a lesson) my scores dip a bit.

try pushing him a certified coach...the coach would likely understand what he's up to and help him out.  you friend would probably listen to him more than a two-year bowler (no offense).

Well, there's always the story of the Paladin on his wedding night....
Sayeth his demure young bride, "I offer you my honor."
"I honor your offer," quoth he.
So the motto would be, "Honor, Offer, Honor, Offer," all night long.
