Whats stronger??
« on: August 11, 2004, 07:37:58 AM »
Basically, I am trying to figure out whether or not I really need a Sheer Havoc. I was looking to put this ball under my Unleashed where my Thrash currently sits. However, is a Sheer as strong as a Thrash?? Which ball will handle carrydown better?? I just dont wanna buy a bunch of new stuff when the stuff I have is perfectly fine. Thanks in advance.

The Sheer uses a Heat 2 weight block which is going to give you good length and more back end. Being it is a shined particle it should give you good length. The Trash weight block is designed to roll earlier. If it is carrydown you are worried about you want to stay more in the middle of the lane with a ball with surface on it and something that rolls more midlane. Trying to go around the carrydown is not the way to go. Read Mo's article March 2004 in BTM. I gotta believe that the Trash is a better bet. Of course it depends how much carrydown there is. If there is any dry at all I would look at an Untamed, box finish with a 5X3 drilling. Hope this helps.

Rock,

The Sheer Havoc is the better choice. One thing that I want to say about that ball is just to be sure to have it drilled for what you want it drilled for. It more so than alot of balls on the market today seems to respond to drillings very well. Meaning....if you drill for length and backend it will give that to you, if you drill for early roll and controlled backend that is what you will get.

Drilled with a similiar layout to the Thrash (read my review, I loved the Thrash), the Sheer is going to be stronger and actually more readable.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, message me.

So Ex, what kind of drill should I put on the Sheer then?? I have my Thrash drilled pin right of ring and cg kicked out a 1/2" from grip center, no weight hole. I like the smoothness of the reaction I get but dont know if this ball with this drill would do well in carrydown.

Also, I am not too familiar with drilling patterns yet, that is something that I am trying to learn and work on so I can essentially layout my own equipment and have my driller drill it up for me. So, yet again, what kind of drill should I put on the ball??

Rock,

If you want the ball to be smooth but also retain some energy for carrydown you will probably need to go with a slightly longer pin from PAP than what you have on the Thrash. I see that you still have your old PAP on your profile, you may want to update that. My suggestion for the Sheer would be maybe the same area that you have the pin and CG on the Thrash, but just place the pin about half an inch to 3/4 of an inch higher (directly UP from the pin location on the Thrash). I hope this helps.

Hey Rock,

Sorry bud, been tired lately, shop starting to pick up a little.  I also recommend the Sheer over the Thrash, it's a stronger ball by nature.  Ex's suggested layout sounds good as well, just kick the cg out right some from the pin and it'll help start the ball get into a little bit of a sooner roll but still have good continuation.  Hope this helps buddy...
