Which ratings are more accurate?
« on: January 01, 2004, 06:32:43 PM »
Curious as to whose ratings Track users find more accurate on overall hook:
            ............... Track...                BTM
Phenom.....          38-30...                      52
PUnleashed.      36-28....                      54
SuperFreak.      36-27....                      48
Mutant.....          34-27...                      56
Freak......           32-25...                      54
TripleThreat.    30-23..                    46
FreakOut...        28-22..                      48
Thrash.....          28-21...                      46
Crunch.....          28-20...                      50
Threat.....          27-20...                      46
CrunchTime      25-20                      44
DryHeat         24-16.....                      38

Agreed there is the usual "apples-apples" problem, and many points of comparison can be raised - I'll raise one on BTM ratings the Crunch hooks more than the SuperFreak...
Thanks, Ken

I tell you what bothered me the most was the rating the Mutant a bigger hooking ball than the Super Freak. By no means is the Mutant stronger than the Super Freak. Also, the Phenom Unleashed is not a ball that hooks more than the Phenom, however it certainly outhooks the Freak. The Crunch is a very good ball, but it does not cover as many boards as the FreakOut, maybe with it dull and the FreakOut polished to 2000grit. From what I have seen in my own experiences.....I would rate the balls you have listed in this order(balls I have not used, I will state I have not:
Phenom
SuperFreak
Phenom Unleashed
Mutant
Freak
FreakOut
Crunch
Triple Threat-used on a limited basis
Thrash
Crunchtime-have not used
Threat
Dryheat-have not used

In BTMs defense, I think that their rating system is supposed to be a starting point and not something that is written into stone.

I thought that the hook rating in BTM was taken from the amount of boards covered by the ball? By those terms, from what I understand between the two balls, the Mutant DOES outhook the Super Freak. Again, this is just my understanding, but from what I have heard between the two balls, the Super Freak likes to get into a roll much earlier but hook less than the Mutant while the Mutant goes a little longer, saving up its energy for a bigger hook.
