Who says old equipment dies?
« on: March 23, 2007, 12:18:37 AM »
Shot 712 last night in prebowl. Shot 255 266 and 195 with my Freak. Things got tons of games on it and it still carries like a mack truck.

Well, I wouldn't exactly refer to the Freak as old. It's older, but it's not a relic or anything.

Anyhow, these posts come up from time to time where people seem amazed that older stuff can still knock the pins around. I know guys who still bowl honor scores with old urethane Hammers and such.

It's the same as it's always been/ if you pick the right ball for the conditions and throw it properly, just about any ball, new or old, can yield solid results.

Djarum,

I wasn't attempting to take a shot at what you had to say, so sorry if that's how it reads. My point was just that all balls, new and old, can be used effectively.

I'm sorry, I knew what you meant. I just know that latetly there has been talk on the forums about death of bowling balls after x amount of games.

One thing to note, is that as of late everyone wants the big skid snap. Looking at the latest releases, that seems to be whats being put out. I have a fired up that was going 45 feet and taking a nose dive left. Couldn't keep it on the lane. The freak gave me a nice even arc to the pocket. Granted, I didn't have pins flying everywhere, but I was carrying the house.

While bowling in our city tournament just last weekend, I crossed with a kid who used the Freak all day long. The mids and backends were scorched, but there was some head oil to be found. He had a decent shot because the Freak pushed through the heads and then just slowly burned off energy as it smoothly arced toward the pocket. His carry suffered as the day went on, but he always had a solid look to the 1-3. The ball definitely has its place.

Last night I was at my local (super jumpy center)...(the DRY is so jumpy).

My sonic boom was SOOOOOO jumpy.  My MoRich Sahara also. NO miss area.  Sometimes on this very harsh pattern...pearls are SOOOO jumpy compared to solids.(as evidenced by Danny Wiseman on todays show and his switch to solid(smooth).

Whereas my highly polished old solids read so smooth.  Sonic X and An old triple drilled X factor deuce read the pattern so smoothly.  EASY.

I've also found old particles highly polished like the MAYHEM read very smooth(maybe smoother than even solid reactive) also off this type of jumpy pattern.

Amazing how different patterns are receptive to different solutions.

I agree....my equipment doesn't seem to die much either.  I do virtually nothing to it.  If I see it get duller in the track after 500 games or so....I may reraise the finish grit and repolish.  Maybe once a year or so!

I think the first game was 195. It may have been 191, but I can't remember. I put that one to the back of my mind going into the second game.

Freak out is old? How about the old bruiser black and blue! Track silencer. Over a 3 game span jackpotting last night, shot 79, 55, 22. The lanes we bowl on Thursdays are spotty and a complete mess. This 5-6yr old Particle ball gave me such a smooth consistent reaction on those lanes. I am currently hunting for a 2nd track money to compliment this old geezer. I agree with the Track balls never die assumption, never really cleaned or resurfaced my silencer or voodoo, they both still react just like they did 4-6 years ago.

If the house you bowl in has the same lanes as last year, uses the same oil and lays down the same pattern, how can a ball get old or out of date?
