Anyhow, these posts come up from time to time where people seem amazed that older stuff can still knock the pins around. I know guys who still bowl honor scores with old urethane Hammers and such.
It's the same as it's always been/ if you pick the right ball for the conditions and throw it properly, just about any ball, new or old, can yield solid results.

I make the comment in the way that I did because they all talk about balls dieing and such.

I'm sorry, I knew what you meant. I just know that latetly there has been talk on the forums about death of bowling balls after x amount of games.
One thing to note, is that as of late everyone wants the big skid snap. Looking at the latest releases, that seems to be whats being put out. I have a fired up that was going 45 feet and taking a nose dive left. Couldn't keep it on the lane. The freak gave me a nice even arc to the pocket. Granted, I didn't have pins flying everywhere, but I was carrying the house.

My sonic boom was SOOOOOO jumpy. My MoRich Sahara also. NO miss area. Sometimes on this very harsh pattern...pearls are SOOOO jumpy compared to solids.(as evidenced by Danny Wiseman on todays show and his switch to solid(smooth).
Whereas my highly polished old solids read so smooth. Sonic X and An old triple drilled X factor deuce read the pattern so smoothly. EASY.
I've also found old particles highly polished like the MAYHEM read very smooth(maybe smoother than even solid reactive) also off this type of jumpy pattern.
Amazing how different patterns are receptive to different solutions.
I agree....my equipment doesn't seem to die much either. I do virtually nothing to it. If I see it get duller in the track after 500 games or so....I may reraise the finish grit and repolish. Maybe once a year or so!

Nobody says old equipment dies (nobody with any sense anyways
). Ball death is mainly associated with particle balls, and some newer resin covers. Older balls never had a reputation for dying..... not that the Freak is old in my book. The age of a ball has nothing to do with ball death. It is more about the coverstock of a ball. Some covers require no real care, and never seem to lose any performance. Some balls require constant care, to maintain performance. And others require constant care, and still lose performance regardless.Who is to say why a ball dies honestly, and why some people see it and other don't. But ball death does exist, I can personally attest to that. I have had 3 different balls die miserable deaths. But I have also used many balls for several years each, and never saw a decrease in performance.

I have noticed something strange about old balls, or just almost any ball that seems to "die". If I use a ball until it gets this way, I can clean it good and put it into the closet for a few weeks. When I get it back out, it hooks and hits as hard as ever.
Somebody told me that with the surface clean, the time in the closet must let the residual oil soak far enough into the shell that it isn't close enough to the upper surface of the shell to affect the balls reaction, and also lets the ball soak up more oil before it "dies" out again. Sounded good to me anyway.
