Suggestions for Crash
« on: August 01, 2005, 12:58:33 PM »
I picked up a Crash that because it could be had for 54 bucks. I have had trouble finding fresh lanes to throw it on this summer (cheap operators). Finally threw it on some freshly oiled lanes saturday. First game was pitiful, everything was Brooklyn-154. Second game, stood about 39 and threw it out to 15 with lots of hand. Wow, first six strikes and 8 of 9. 10th frame came in heavy and left 7-10 for 237. Last game was 208 using same line. Was hoping to use this as a fairly dry-medium ball but it looks like it is much stronger than expected. Drilled it 5x4 for a little length. Will polishing it up give me a little more length, or should I keep experimenting with swinging it out wide? The lanes I normally bowl in leagues on are medium to pretty dry some nights.

jimmy,

The first thing I would do is throw a heavy coat of Delayed Reaction on it. Odds are you are getting most of your hook in the backend of the lane, delayed reaction will help tame that breakpoint a bit.

GOODLUCK,

I really like to keep the factory finish on mine. It works great when there is carry down, on that second shift. It really is a great ball. When I polished it, it seemed to squirt on everything except dry.

I found my crash to be very condition specific.  Even then I could only throw it w/ a few coats of delayed reaction.  The break point shape was much to angular for me as well.  but I have 400 RMP and 18.8 mph off the hand ( according to C.A.T.S) The first drilling i used was to get the ball to roll early and that made the ball read the dry way 2 soon. i.e on a 40 ft shot ball would go to 42-45 then make an absolute left turn, very skid flip.  So i re drilled it negative and liked it much more, but still not enough 2 carry w/ me in my rustic 5 ball arsenal (college bowling limas us to 5).

My Crash was very over/under for me until I took the polish off. I never had any luck with mine with any type of shine on it. However, the Delayed Reaction fro Ex is a good idea if you can make it work.

Thanks fellas, I was hoping to use this ball on second shift conditions, but I guess I will have to wait and see. The two local lanes go really cheap in the summer and dont really oil the lanes like they should. League registration is next week, so I will be able to throw the Crash on league conditions then. I will see how it reacts. That is one thing that really bothers me about living in the middle of nowhere. You cant practice in the summer. Its like practicing free throws in basketball on an 11 foot goal, then getting thrown into a game.
