Xception 5.0 First Impressions

I got a chance to throw it a little tonight.  Just punched up to get a feel for it .  Layout is 5 x 4 with pin under ring, 1.5" above midline.  I decided to experiment with target weighting so the weighthole is 2.5" from the center of the grip 3" deep.

This is one strong ball but IHMO in all the right places (the midlane and backend). The midlane read is really nice.  It's definately a different look than the Xception.  I compared it to an Xception with the same layout except the pin was above the fingers and the extra hole was 2 1/4" below the axis.  The X5.0 was easily at least 3-4 boards stronger but with more midlane.       The backend is still strong.  Unfortunately, this is my first target weighted ball so I don't know how much of the look is natural but the midlane and continuation was really turning heads.  There was never a strong change of direction like the Xception.  It just picked up in the midlane and continued from there.  Carry was "exceptional"

I'll post more once I get more games on it and compare to my other equipment (i.e GP2 and Agressive).

chappy,

I have been waiting to hear from you and Rick on the reaction you guys get. The backend on the 5.0 was huge for me. I will be picking up a couple more to try some different layouts.

BTM says it has a smoother breakapoint than the Xception also, but I didn't see that.

The pin carry and continuation of the ball through the pins in EX's video was just amazing.  I'd love to see a comparison of the GP2, Rule, Xception 5.0 and Xception being thrown on the same line.

If Rick was able to loop the lane by cranking a Rule, I wonder how much more ball the 5.0 is.

Dino,

I can do that for you bud, but those balls cannot play the same line. If I tried to play the GP2 where I played the Xception in the video it would have burned up immediately.

The vids that I really liked were the ones on the Track website that compared the Phenom to the Freak, and when Rick compared his Rule to the Animal and Animal Untamed.  

Your vids are great, and there's no immediate need for more videos.  I can't wait to see the Xception 5.0 LIVE in action, but I doubt I'll come across any staffers over the summer.

I wish those vids were still available.    I'd like to see Track post more of them, especially when they make "complementary" balls like the Rule and Xception or the Angular and Aggressive.

That's what I want Rick, Carl, Steve, and achappy to do.  It would be great to see different styles of play using complementary balls!

I really wanted to throw some more games but since league just finished Wed, I'll post a few words.

Pulled it out for sweepers Wed nite, first time fresh out of box so I had no clue what to expect.  Drilled 4 7/8x4mb(on val), pin 1 5/8 above mid (under bridge).  I drilled it very similar to my old Unleashed and after speaking to Excaliber, I decided to keep it more controlled for strong arc based on the feedback of the backend strength.

Lanes were a little on the dry side (no free hold, but backs started clean) so I had to start at about 32 hitting about 14 to 8 at the break point.  It cleared very easily for me thru the fronts, started to read the mids much quicker compared to the Xception and the backend strength was strong, very strong.  NOW I know why the guys were saying this, even with this layout which should have controlled it some, the backend strength was pretty impressive.  

My cousin/teammate put it best as he kept saying how smooth it looked but the best way I can describe it was that it had plenty of continuation.  If I touched the 1-3, they went down.  Left only 4 10's all nite, 2 shots I topped (horribly) and then 2 came late when carry down appeared, whiffed 2 of them btw.  Still shot 227-237-233 for a 697 (cashed 8th in sweepers), not bad for tossing it fresh out of box w/o a clue.  I'll have to throw it side by side with a couple of balls to give you guys a better comparison.  

So far, I like the reaction a lot and thanks to good friend Excaliber for the heads up info.  Ex lays out my stuff and I lay out his so if they don't roll well, we have someone to blame...

I'll post some vids after I get back from Detroit (sometime after Memorial Day).  Too busy before then.

EX:
I don't know how much of the reaction was natural or because of the layout and weighthole.  I wasn't expecting it to be as sharp as the Xception with the particle and stronger core. I want to try one with a 6" pin above the middle finger and the MB strong to see how well it turns the corner I do like how much room right I get with it.  I practiced on a pair that had open play on them all day so there was quite a bit of carrydown.  There was a film outside around 7-8 that the Xception and Heat would squirl once it got there.  Not the X5.0.  It started up and turned the corner at that spot. The carry was better too because there was too much oil downlane for the Xception and the Heat.

I'm heading to TNBA Nationals next week so hopefully I'll get a chance to use it more (they were hooking quite a bit last time I went)

Just want know what you mean by saying TARGET WEIGHTING. I have been trying to folow your progress since you made Team USA in San Deigo.  You throw the ball so good and I hope we can keep getting the VIDS.
