Impressions on the Track Xception
« on: December 27, 2004, 12:32:41 PM »
This is the first Track ball I have thrown since I bought the Phenom Unleased last November. I was unsure of what to expect since I am the only person in the house with this ball now and my only other impression came from watching Walter Ray playing around the 1 board during the Uniroyal Open.

I didn't buy another Track ball because ultimately I felt the Phenom Unleashed was a bit overhyped...didn't care much for it in the long run, but I decided to give it another shot because I liked what I read about the Morpheus Rev Lever core and the coverstock.

I don't know much about drillings but I will try and describe it best as I can, 15 lbs, 3oz top weight, 3 inch pin. Had the pin placed in the below the bridge so when my hand is in the ball it is touching the upper palm beneath the ring and middle finger. Mass bias is about an inch below the thumb, and the CG is about an inch or so to the upper right of the thumb. Not sure if this makes sense, it's first time I've ever used this drilling for a pearlized resin ball.

In my house I play straight up the 10 board with high revs and medium to high ball speed depending on the way the lanes are playing. Lane conditions are medium oil from 5 to 5, and some oil from 5 to the gutter, very light in that area. Length is about 40-42 feet or so I would estimate. Backends are stripped, but they are not flying backends.

Anyhow drilled it up this afternoon and used it in league tonight. Went 245-236-226 for a 707 series right out of the box. I was very impressed with the midlane reaction because the ball noticeably revs up quickly then begins to make a strong move to the pocket. It reads the medium oil pattern very well. The backend is very impressive as it just turns and drives through the rack very well.

I am very impressed with this ball and I will definitely buy another Track ball after using this. Props to Track for the coverstock and the core.

Exactly!!!! I do not think they could have done a better job on creating a ball that is meant to do what the Xception is meant to do. Great cover/core combo! The main thing I like about this ball is how it seemingly takes each individual pin and spanks it with a sack of potatoes.

Good shooting David, the Xception is a perfect fit for me under the Rule.  Come to think of it, my last 2 tournament pot winnings have been with this ball.  Now you know why all the guys have been talking about Track...it's not hype, it's for real.

Definitely agree with the remark about what it does to the pins.

I had to double up in the 10th for that 700 and the second ball smashed the rack, looked like a stone 10 was staying, then a pin just dropped down on top of it.

Track did a good job with the ball, I'm really impressed with how the core causes the ball to rev up the way it does. Also forgot to mention, this ball carries very well on light pocket hits.

For either Ex or tenpins, what does the Rule do I guess "better" than the Xception?

The Rule has the same core as the XCeption, but has a dull Goo reactive cover, which will start into an earlier roll. Plus, the cover on the X is Goo LS (long/strong) which is designed to go longer than the original Goo as well. I am getting another Xception and dulling the surface and drilling it the same as my favorite Rule to see the difference between the 2 balls. The X should still go a bit longer, but not as long as an Xception with the box finish.

Thanks!

GO TRACK!

Happy Holidays!

David,

Clint hit on it. The Rule starts up sooner. When you hit a pattern when the Xception gets down the lane too long and does not make a strong enough move on the backends...the Rule steps in and takes charge. It will start up a few ft sooner. When the backends are fresh the Xception snaps harder. If you have tried a dull ball in the past and just did not get the backend movement you had hoped....the Rule offers it. It has more backend and is more angular than any dull ball I have ever thrown.

Hey David,

The Rule is exactly as Ex states.  My Rule reacts almost identical to my Xception but for heavier oil, approximately 4-5 boards.
