Track Rule
« on: February 14, 2005, 04:51:52 PM »
I used my Rule first time tonight and I bowled 182, 266 and 214. Not bad for only average 180. This ball hook about 5 board more than my rock on but it hit so much harder. I love it!!! First time I leave a solid 9 pin in a long long time. I carry soo much better with this ball and only leave 2 10-pin tonight. Which is very good since I average 7 10-pin a night the last couple month.

one question:
How come the rule only hook 5 board more than my rock on????

Hey Danny,

How's is it drilled?  There are many deciding factors behind how much one hooks.  Varying from rev rate to speed, rotation, tilt, lane friction and so on..it's a little hard to answer your question without having some of the pertinent data.

Generically speaking, if you only hook the Rock On about 10 boards, 5 more is a lot (50% increase).  You can do the math from there on your increase in varying amounts of total hook but another huge factor is the amount of oil you're using these balls on.  If there isn't enough head oil to help a ball truly store energy, then it also won't be released as strong as it would if it were retaining energy all the way until the dry area.  Hope this helps explain some...

The rock on was supposed to be a fairly agressive ball.  also it depends the rule my be a tamer drilling bringing them closer in reaction. plus it is possible that the rule is burning up a little early and not showing its full potential.

I have both balls and my 2001 Rock On (about 250 games with a very light resurface) will still hook with my Rule. Rock On drilled stack leverage with large balance hole about 2 inches below my PAP and Rule drilled 4x5 with MB about 2 inches right of the thumb and small hole on the PAP. If I polish the Rock On, it will be about 5 feet earlier than the Rule. So, I don't think there's an issue.

Dear Rick,
My rule is drilled with pin next to ring finger and 1 inch above. Also a small weight hole. I understand there a lot of reason why a ball hook or don't hook.
Your info is very helpful, Thanks!!!

Thank you for all the info guys, Great help!!!

Hey Danny, where's the mb logo (small symbol of the core)?  This wil also help tell us what reaction shape the ball was drilled at, thanks.

Hmm..generically speaking (not knowing your pap), it sounds fine.  I would have to suspect that the condition you're using it on isn't heavy or long enough for the ball to store more energy.

Imagine your car tire spinning on 2 feet of snow and then hitting dry road vs spinning on 10 feet of snow before hitting dry pavement.  You will see a harder jump or jerk motion from the vehicle while the tires are spinning  longer and storing more energy.  Not sure if this is happening to you but may help explain what you're seeing.  Hope this helps....
