Smoothed out the Solution Power Plus Ex- results
« on: July 31, 2006, 12:39:46 PM »
I decided to have my pro shop smooth out the Solution Power Plus Ex with a 1000 grit abralon pad. Amazing results so far. In three different houses (1 1/2 synthetic, 1/2 wood, 1 Brunswick synthetic Anvilane, 1 total wood) I've been able to post some serious numbers with the look I get now from this ball. In my summer league after resurfacing and rescreening the lanes, I ended up pulling this ball out in the 9th frame of game one after the RoboRule and Diablo were burning up too much. Ended game one with a 4 bagger to bail out an otherwise all spare game for a 207- then proceeded to reel off a 257 and 267 for my high set of the summer at 731.

If you are looking for a medium ball that is severely underrated and although discontinued still worthy of a spot in your bag, be sure to keep this one in your sights.

Matt

Yeah, I have not heard alot about this ball at all either. I am glad you have taken your time to post this with us. I remember seeing the ppex doing well on a medium/light condition in a tournament once.

Nice post Matt.

I tried 1000 Abralon on mine a while back....it did smoothen down the backend quite a bit

Yeah, for you and Matt, guys with a LOT of ball speed. If I sanded mine to 1000 grit, I'd have to put it away on oil that I'd normally use it for. I'd probably need at least 2000 grit in order for it not to hook too early.

Machine101,

I think you probably got here a little late. Chappy turned me onto it quite a while back shortly after it came out and I haven't regretted it for a minute. We talked about it more back then.

I drilled mine mild-ish, pin between the finger holes and CG kicked out slightly, no weight hole, about a 5.25" x 4" drill, pin about 2 3/4" above midline. Great for medium-light oil (If I 1000 "gritted" mine, I'd need medium+ oil. ) Has medium hard arc, not skid-flip. Pins seem to flee from it. Stock surface finish is kind of allergic to carrydown, especially with the low flare.

Hey Matt, (How's it going buddy?)

Thanks for sharing the info.  As a shop owner, I always try to explain to my customers that once a ball is drilled, nothing is written in stone.  We can still alter covers, weight holes or drill holes deeper to achieve the desired reaction. Good to see more bowlers with an open mind...
