Nationals money and taxes question?
« on: January 12, 2009, 06:13:12 AM »
Let's say you go to Vegas looking to bowl.  There is a team that needs a bowler. You don't have the entry fee to give them so they say, any money won by you they will keep.
Can they really do this?  I thought checks are made out to the bowler.  If so, how will they cash the check?  Not only that, if you win a pretty good amount won't you have to pay taxes?

Checks are made out to the bowlers but mailed to the team captains

You would be surprised how many team captains actually cash the checks and hand out the cash.
Yes, there is a possibility that you could actually win enough money to be taxed and yes you will get a 1099 from USBC, than you will have a dickens of a time getting the monies owed from that particular captain if it is somewthing like you asked in your question
