When someone here mentioned Houston, my first thought was there was no way.  I heard a rumor years ago that USBC won't go to "A type" cities like Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, etc because cities such as those don't like giving up venues for that long a period of time.  Those cities are always booking events at the local convention centers that they almost do not need something like the USBC Tournament.  Look at the places we have gone to.  Huntsville, Knoxville, Billings, Corpus Cristi, Albuquerque, Reno.  Those are not really considered major cities.

You know where I would like to see it go?  JACKSONVILLE, FL!!!!  It was held there back around 1990, on the east coast, and close enough to Orlando where plans for travel would not significantly change. I drove through there back in August and it looks like a pretty clean city.  A friend of mine who used to live there said that they have cleaned the city up quite a bit over the past 5-10 years.  The World Golf Village is a must see for golf fans and only a 20 minute drive South of Jacksonville.  St Augustine is a city that is cool to visit that is rich in history.  S.A. is about 30 minutes south as well. Not to mention the Beaches!!!!

Jacksonville, Jacksonville, Jacksonville!!!!!

Steven....as long as those beaches allow the women to roam topless, I second the motion!

Bowlers Journal reported today in its cyber newsletter that Reno is the favorite for 2011 - just tying up contract details before the announcement.

I've got to think that Orlando will get a slide of 2 years.

So
2010 - Reno
2011 - Reno
2012 - Baton Rouge
2013 - Orlando and then every 3 years
2014 - Reno and then every 3 years

Women already scheduled for Orlando in 2013, 2016, etc. so would have to alter their schedule as well to get Open to Orlando in 2013.

Would imagine we will go to Reno 3 out of 4 years.

3 out of 4 in Reno, ouch.  I'm not much of a gambler and there's only so much to do in that area.

I'm just thinking with the current climate they can't the financing and the opening will slide at least 2 years.

They have a contract with Baton Rouge and probably have to go there.

Whether they would for the Women's open out a year or have the men go to Reno 3 out of 4 years I don't know.

IMO, if they go to Reno 3 out of 4 years, they will see a drop in entries especially from the east coast and even moreso if the economy continues to tank.  They need to seriously reconsider their schedule.

It doesn't matter if THEY recognize it or not.  It isn't up to the USBC to go to Atlanta and say "we want to hold the National Tournament here in 2010, what kind of facility etc can you give us and what will it cost?"  ANY city can bid on the tournament IF they wish.  The East coast, or half of the country for that matter has shown little or no interest in bidding.  It's been hashed on here many times that a location either doesn't have the facilities or need to tie one up for 6 months to bring in the kind of money we generate.  The latter may be a different story with the economy at present but the fact we are booked ahead as far as we are figures in as well.  4 or 5 years down the road we all have to hope it's recovered, and then of course it goes back to they don't need a 6 month tournament tying up one of their convention centers.
Everyone has their angle on it.  With living here in Wisconsin and dealing with the weather we can have, by mid March when we always bowl it's nice to get to a little milder weather.  Not to sure if it was in say Detroit, Philly or any where else East and or North we would be as religious about going.  Chicago? Sure, even in crappy weather it's at worst a 4 or 5 our drive for us.  But the main thing to remember.... to host, a city must show they want it there, by bidding on it

THEICEMAN is correct.  It is up to the city to bid on the tournament.  BUT, it would be nice to see the USBC take a little initiative, if they haven't, to contact some cities on the eastern side of the US and see if they would like a tournament there for 5 months.  There are ALOT of places on the East Coast from Florida all the way to Virginia.  I would like to go to different places such as Jacksonville, Savannah, GA, Charlotte, NC, Columbia, SC, Richmond, VA, places like that.
