2021 OC Report

Bowled June 1-2

Team Practice played very similar to team event this year, was actually a bit helpful for once.

Team Event:
Team had 2833
Personally had 633, 187-202-244, two opens in each of the first two games. Started with a Venom Shock just right of 10 and had some miss outside right from the get go, lanes transitioned quick, and my opens were from not moving in fast enough though I was moving every couple frames. Game 3 grabbed my Venom Fatal, and was playing a little inside of 4th arrow out to 8-10 and striking at will. Compared to years prior, Team seems to have some free hook outside, and is probably in that 38ft or so range again, easier than 2019, but not easy as it changes very fast. Advice is to not use anything too strong, and don't be afraid to jump inside.

Doubles and Singles:
Had 604-639

Doubles started around 10 again with the Venom Shock, turned a big game into a 210 with a split in the 10th, game 2 grinded out a 1 open 199, game 3 grinded out a 1 open 195. I could not find any room, this pattern felt much flatter, and the lane surface hooks a lot, so when you try to move in, the ball just seems to hook earlier, absolute struggle for me, but kept the ball in play and grinded out an okay set thanks for a few brooklyns and good breaks to avoid splits.

Singles, balled down to my Fatal again, moved back to about where I started with the Shock and started throwing it harder instead of trying to shape the ball from inside like I did the prior two games and had a good look, went 23x,22x and thought I was cruising to a good singles set, and then finished it with a 1 open 181 where I just couldn't get the ball down the lane as they blew completely open in the heads and I just couldn't get lined up the last game.

I don't have a lot of advice for D/S, pair to pair look to play a lot different from the older lane surface, some lanes the middle seems to play great, my pair was brutal when we tried to move in so we just tried jamming it up the lane to the right. If I could do it again i'd have started with a Desert or Purple tank around 13 or 14 to no further right than 10 and hoped to carry down some oil and then balled up and played a breakpoint a little outside of that.

Overall 1876, solid showing for me, Team felt easy, D/S felt awfully hard, both hook quite a bit and I didn't see any high end big hooking balls look useful.

Good luck to anyone going and i'll check back in if anyone has any questions.

Thanks for the Review!  I head out there on Thursday this week.  Like you said it must really be a pair to pair game as I have read reviews for Doubles and Singles that state they get so tight down lane that it's very tough to strike.  This is the first I have heard about the fronts burning up.  Congrats on a Very nice all events total!

I think the issue for doubles and singles is the super friction old surface in the bowling center. Can’t imagine the amount of traffic those lanes have seen. Once the heads start to go combine it with the massive amount of friction and blammo.

If you rotate it at all you’ll be at about 21-22 at the arrows. You’ll get to the pocket relatively easily. Striking is a different story.

Agree with this take, think my pair mates shimmwrecked our lanes a bit.

Thanks Lane, but I wouldn't take too much to heart, always trust your eyes out on the there on what you see from your own reaction, too much preconceived notion never helps. Best of luck!
