Can you actually have another try at it? I thought you can only bowl once in the USBC Nationals?

I believe Riggs will be practicing on the surface.  He's not scheduled to bowl until late May.

Sorry for the confusion ... we're PRACTICING again on the USBC OC pattern at Steve Richter's center on the 29th. We bowl in Reno May 20-21.

I'm disappointed that the scores are so high. How much longer will the average bowlers continue to support the professional amateurs? With the new bowling balls, and the better education available, even the "sport" shot breaks down to a "very playable" condition now. I am afraid entries will suffer, as well as brackets, because of the scoring pace that can be had now at Nationals.

Scoring pace always seems to be somewhat controversial, but it stands to reason scores will increase.
 
There is much information on playing the lanes, lane oil patterns, and equipment, to name a few factors. This web site has plenty of info on those subjects. Throw in some talent, and good practice habits, and scores increase.
 
It doesn't mean we can all achieve phenomenal results, but  we can all read the info, talk to those who have competed, and go in with a game plan...then, all we have to do is execute (sounds easy, lol).

these numbers are, in all, bad for the sport. They are more harmful for the open IMHO. The whole idea of the open was that the shot was hard, you worked for your scores and got what you got....now, the numbers that are being shot are by people we expect them from, but this high....the "x" factor = lane pattern. I was one that Riggs called a chicken little in a ref on one of his FB posts about 3500 in team.....it's coming, and its gonna happen.....and probably it will be riggs' group if they stick to their plan......IMHO. There has already been one team that was +443 after 2 games and lost it the last game.....but 3500 was there, in front of them, they just missed it. Jeff, if your group is +440 after 2....the 3500 will be posted, because you guys won't miss it.

Brian, if we have 440 over after 2 I would wager we will get to 3,500.

But NO TEAM has had 440 over after 2 this year. The most so far is 354 over after 2. Check results here:


 

There has NEVER been a 3,500 since the tournament went to all fresh oil for team event. 3,496 in 2006 is high and that was when the gutter was open to start.

 

COULD it happen? Of course. Would I bet on it? I'd bet AGAINST it.

 

My Chicken Little was aimed at those who predicted 3,500, 1,600, 860 and 2,300 after one week of this year's tournament. FYI: leading scores right now are 3,439, 1,447(!), 826, 2,268.

 

I waited to make some predictions in my blog until about a month had been bowled and mine are looking much more reasonable than those of the Chicken Littles.

 

In 2 1/2 months we will know how much the sky fell.

 

And, even if it does, the bigger issue by far is FRESH OIL FOR ALL SQUADS! People worried about scoring pace should direct their energy at that FAR MORE IMPORTANT ISSUE!!!!

Now I'm really excited. I bowl May 21-22, so I can watch you guys light 'em up. Riggs, what are your squad times? I'm just glad that you are not bowling on MY squad.
