I heard a rumor today that maybe as early as this year that the USBC National tournament will be doing away with their dress code as well as the ball check in requirements. Anybody else hearing this info??

It would make sense...sideweight doesn't matter anymore. You're actually doing yourself a disservice without a weight hole now in most cases.

There is a whole list of other changes they nrrd to make for that tourney and it never gets any better.

Weigh in? Uh, perhaps it could go. I'm not sure it matters in with todays bowling balls like people think. I'm with Russell on this one.
I'm for it, they need to reduce the check in time down to 30 minutes. Seems like you are in the squad room forever.

Its tough to make weigh in quicker because a lot of bowlers have the interchangable thumb systems.

At a seminar last year we had a rep from USBC in the group. He said once they passed the proposal weigh in would consist of checking gross weight ( to be sure it's not heavier than 16 lbs and checking weight hole size to be sure it's not bigger than 1 1/4 inches. he didn't mention whether they would still durometer the balls or not

I agree.. Keep the dress code. they don't really need to check static weights anymore but definitely gross weight, and I'd say they still need to durometer the balls. Getting rid of these things would be a definite step backwards as far as integrity goes.

I also agree about keeping the dress code. It should be a honor to bowl in this tournament. If you think it isn't, than don't bowl. I remember at the tender age of 6 sitting at a table in Oklahoma City eating cookies and milk and watching some of the greats in game walk by me and rub my head and tell me someday I will be good enough to bowl in the Nationals. We have to give respect to the game for what it has done for people and what it will continue to do for people. Losing the dress code will just cheapen the tournament. It's a big event for alot of people young and old. I remember bowling my first Nationals in Kansas, that feeling you get walking down that aisle was amazing, a 19 year old kid gets to bowl where the BIG BOYS bowl and compete on the same level as them has been a moment in my life I hopefully will never forget.

Actually, thats not a bad idea. I would increase the number to 5, but otherwise I hear ya.

Why? What is wrong with the limit of 8 set now?
Figuring most people have a spare ball, that leaves only 3 or 4 other balls. If you guess wrong, you can easily go from all events champion to chump with varied and unknown lane conditions you face in Doubles and Singles.

Yea good luck with the dress code being enforced and the max of 4 or 5 balls.. Just never going to happen.
I am all for dress code, but many bowlers have the thought process of I spend all kinds of money to get there, hotel, entry, food, etc.. Then on top of that your going to tell me what I can and cannot wear. They accept what we have now. Anything more would lose entries and we know USBC doesn't want that.
The ball issue, take as many as you want. Chances are you won't use but 2-3 anyway.
