Advice please
« on: February 25, 2009, 02:02:45 PM »
Tweener, 14.5 to 15.5, med rev

I'm looking for a skid flip ball to allow me to play deeper that is also a good first shot benchmark ball. My coach has recommend a solid. I've seen:
 RotoGrip Rogue Cell, Grand Illusion
Storm Attitude Shift, Virtual Gravity, Dimension

I'd like to stay in the Storm/RG line as I have a Cell and Spit Fire and like these balls.

Does such an animal exist?

Well generally a solid ball isn't skid/flip, its much more rolly.  It kinda sounds like you would want to use a pearl ball that still manages to cover some boards.  If you want to stick with your choices so far, I'd say a Virtual Gravity with a longer pin to PAP drilling may give you the reaction you desire.  You may however, have to tweak it with surface changes to find that exact read you're looking for since its very strong core/cover combo.  I would rule out the Dimension, its a great piece, but its all about the roll, no skid/flip involved in this one.  This is just my personal opinion, but take it with a grain of salt, I haven't thrown this ball, but a Cell Pearl with a strong layout may do the trick.  Also, don't over look the Rapid Fire Pearl, its a fine piece, and may fit the bill.

Coach recommended a solid due to versatility of cover alterations. I know people sand pearls but is that truly advised? If I were to get two, a pearl (say a Cell or Rapid Fire) what would make a good benchmark ball(a Hy-Road or Pluto)? So, a Cell, Cell Pearl and a Pluto should cover a veriaty of condition. Throw in my SpitFire and GameBreaker and I should be ok for Nationals I think.
