Airline ?????
« on: April 12, 2004, 02:25:44 AM »
I'm thinking of boxing up 3 balls in a box that holds 4 balls (from the company) and stuffing my shoes or jeans in the open hole.  I want to check that along with a 2 ball bag.  I'll carry on my bag with clothes.  Has anyone done that?  If so, any problems?

If you are flying an airline with a 50lb max you will probably have a problem.  I didn't find airlines to be real strict to that (one guy with us had 58lbs and no problems), but have heard stories of people who have.  Its something like an extra $80 if you are over weight on most airlines.  I would call them and check first.

Watch your weight ,especially with Northwest Airlines---they got me for $50 for being over 50 lbs on checked baggage.

What airlines are you planning on using?  Southwest allows three bags checked in with a weight limit of 70 pounds each.  Other airlines may only be two bags and 50 pounds.

What airline are you flying on? Also, what pound ball do you throw? If you throw 15, you should be OK with just the 3 balls and your shoes, dont try to pack anything else in there.

I also used a cardboard box, and I regret it. It seems like it would be a great idea, but in the long run it sucked bad. It was a real pain lugging that damn thing around. I took a box that was a little bit bigger and put a small 2 ball tote, a bad of clothes, and a small sleeping bag in it. Like I said, I thought it would be really convenient but this was my first time flying so I didnt really know. It sucked, but it worked. Good luck.

Something else to consider.  This year they are offering a ball shipping service at the Stadium.  You could pack it all into a four-ball box and ship it to the Stadium.  Check for other topics on this subject, others have posted with their results.

A buddy had his balls shipped out there from Indiana. I know it cost him like $28 and change to send them there, and it cost him more than that to send them back.

But If you ship them out UPS,you'll miss hearing the sound of thuds, loud banging sounds of the crew below throwing your bags in the airplane storage area...boom boom boom...cracking a core...

Has anyone used Alaska Air? I'm booking my flight today and wanted to know if anyone has had any problems with the 50lb rule or their customer service all together.
Thanks,

yes it does cost more to ship them out in Reno and you must ship them out by 9 pm the night before you leave, you ask my buddy Axeweldr about that one...he had to bowl late shift 11:30 pm and catch a plane at 6am the next morning so he couldnt ship out after bowling..so he made do with the 2 balls he kept though.

also a man was onboard the plane before we took off and a person in charge of weighing his bags came onto the plane and told him he was over 50 lbs...and that he owed 25.00...he told him either you pay now or we leave your luggage behind...he came up with 23 and the man in chrge gave him 2 dollars so it was taken care of....

Ohhh yeah...I flew NorthWest and all 4 Flights were flawless...everything went as best as expected....I'm actually starting to like flying.
