My Nationals Report
« on: June 10, 2008, 01:07:36 AM »
Sorry for the delay in getting this up:

I arrived in Albuquerque near the end of May. First order of business was a 1 hour video lesson with Mike Jasnau. Got some good things to work on and he made some changes that I think will help my game going forward.

BTM Tournament - Leisure Lanes
I bowled this twice during my stay here. First time I tried playing up 10-11-12 straight and also tried moving in deeper. I struggled for 2 games trying these lines. I finally moved way out, pointing the ball up 3-4. This way if I tugged it, it went brooklyn and I had the right gutter there to deter me from getting it right. Playing there I wound up at 764 for my first set and 798 for my second. SO I just made it into Cashing with my second set. Others found more success playing very deep, 4th or 5th arrow, but I could not.

Bowler's Journal - Holiday Bowl
Normally one of my stops at Nationals, I missed this one this year. We heard from numerous sources, not to bowl this tournament early in the day, the lanes are just too slick. But when the afternoon rolled around, we had usually found something else to bowl or do and never made it back to bowl the BJI.

Roto Grip Sports Challenge - Convention Center
I bowled this the max number of 6 times, cashing 4 straight days. I found the best line playing straight up between 4-8 depending on when we bowled it during the day. I used a 1000 Abralon Cell drilled stong, 25 deg angle, pin under layout. I rolled between 410 and 450 using this line. I actually won one day with a 448, and picked up a high game pot with a 228, and tied for the clean frames with 20. Overall a nice shot and a nice warmup for the actual Open.

USBC Open - Convention Center
For those who like to make quick surface alterations, there is a little machine next to the Storm/RotoGrip booth that will change your surface to just about anything you want for $5.00. It will also do a complete resurface for $25.00. Only downside is it leaves a little water in your finger/thumb/balance hole. I took the 1000 Abralon Cell down to 500 Abralon before team event. Went out and playing straight up 6-7-8 and shot 236 the first game. Unfortunately, most of my teammates and the other team we crossed with were playing them inside of me. SO when this line dried up a bit, I had no where to move to. I tried some different equipment (Cell OOB with pin over, Rival shined and saw some success. I would up with 195, 188 for 619. We bowled D/S on the pair next to where the ladies shot 3258. Two of our doubles teams were on the pair that they used for team. Started out had to move a little further left from end of team and started with the Rival. Just could never get going and switched to a Wrath High flush. I played 3rd arrow out to about 9-10. Shot 610 for Doubles and 604 for Singles for a whopping 1833 A/E score. Made about $400 in the brackets. My only hope now is with a 188 low game (2x) I can make a little headway in the Super Brackets, lol.

Thanks Guys. Overall I know my scores weren't too bad. But after last year and with the success I've had at some regionals, I was expecting more from myself. We had 4 teams and I was high (tied for high actually) with the 1833. We had a very good bowler on our team, who shot a 300 before at Nationals, shoot under 500 for team event, so I saw first hand the struggles of some.

And no I don't want to trade, lol.
