Albuquerque Local
« on: February 08, 2008, 03:29:39 PM »
I just wanted to offer any assistance to my fellow Ball Reviewers coming to the USBC Open in Albuquerque.  I am a native to the Albuquerque area and know some of the ins and outs of the city.  I have been on this site since February 2004 and have spoke to many great people, learned so much from all of you, and enjoyed the many great videos BrunsNick has produced, stared, and edited.  Now it is my turn to finally meet some of you, and give back what I can to help you all.

I will be more than happy to help with any information I can and give and any suggestions when needed.  I am also going to be working the Open as Lane Monitor during some of the evening squads and bowling the Open on Memorial Day weekend.  So if you see a young, skinny, red headed kid that kind of looks like Opie Taylor, stop and say “Hi, Bobby!” Because it would be great to put faces to those I have learned and listened to, from this site.  Hit me with a Post or a PM and I will be more than happy to help you guys and gals out.

Tell me where I can find good margaritas and a live mariachi band and I'll be all set.  Thanks!

Do you have any info about the Hampton Inn North?  Is it in a good neighborhood?  Is it modern?  Are the rooms entered from the outside or inside?  Is there plenty of parking on the property, etc., etc.

We're staying right across from the convention center, not sure if we are getting a car or not.  What are some good places, bars, sights, etc., that are walking distance?  There are users that are going to want to know about strip clubs, so you might as well throw some names out if you know any.

When nationals was there last time we got bumped over to the La Pasada (don't think I spelled that right) because the hotel we were suppose to stay at overbooked. I remember walking over to the convention center and hearing a crunching noise all the way there.

You're within walking distance of the downtown area.  Central avenue from 1st street all the way to 6th street has everything to offer from bars, pool, dancing and the above mentioned strip club.  The "Libary" bar and grill is famous for being the backdrop from the movie "Wild Hogs" (the scene when they are planning their trip and Paul Tuttle, Sr and Jr are in it).  Central is blocked off and friday and saturday nights so people can do their bar hopping without getting runned over.

If you're talking about the one off I-25 around Jefferson, it is a little older(not modern by today's standard), but in a nice part of town.

Garduno's makes pretty good Margarita's and I believe the 2nd street and Osuna locations have Mariachi bands on the weekends.

How about golf?  I know that University of NM is a good place to play but what about another course the locals only know about?

Margaritas - Pat is correct Garduno's is probably the best joint, have a few locations in Albuquerque, even one when you get of the plane at the airport.

Golf - Paco Ridge is a pretty nice course, Sandia casino has built a new one that I haven't played yet.

Cigar - Good little Cigar Shop across from my office...  Duke City Cigars

Check out: www.golfnewmexico.com

Paako Ridge is absolutely gorgeous, a great value is either Pueblo De Cochiti(halfway between Albq and Santa Fe) and Isleta Eagle (south of Albq).

La Quinta Inn Albuquerque                                                                                                                                                   2424 SAN MATEO BOULEVARD

That is where we are staying at.  I'm planning on playing golf, but not sure what else to do.  We need something fun, but family oriented....

And ideas?
