Facebook for discussion boards

Ok, let me state up front that I am NOT looking to start an argument, nor will I respond to moronic posts in that vein. I'm just wondering if I am the only one who thinks the change from USBC boards to a Facebook discussion format (except for subs, if I understand correctly) is a step backward? Facebook style has its place, but a multi topic oriented discussion board is not best implemented in Facebook...
I'd appreciate feedback. Curious if I'm alone in this regard.

I would agree with your point, facebook makes for difficult discussions.  I believe one of the main reasons for USBC making the switch is to stop some of the anonymous posting that can happen on message boards.

Facebook requires a lot more work to be so anonymous, and puts a face with most comments.

I wholeheartedly agree. I think they should have kept both. Facebook is great for updating and quick short discussions. Ongoing discussions should remain on their forums or facebook needs to had some sort of a forum feature to make that viable.

Many companies are migrating to Facebook for their discussion/comment forums, and I think it may have to do with reducing their costs for hosting and bandwidth usage.  Why host your own forum (and incur the IT overhead) when you can just have Mark Zuckerberg do it for you?

I agree with the sentiment, but the question is whether the format is a step forward. I respectfully submit that it's a step backwards in serving the community. Tracking topics is worse, not better, and the continual posting just to post is nothing but clutter.

Other than that, I have no strong opinion on the topic...  ;)
