I assume you could careless about second shift or the dry shifts then?

Well, I bowl the 9am squad for D/S, and there's always been plenty of oil.  There have been several years where I've gotten fresh lanes because they either didn't fill the first shift, or sometimes canceled it altogether.

Since they haven't posted the pattern yet, it's impossible to say for sure, but tentatively

LM Terminator
Storm Special Agent
Storm Second Dimension

Seems to me it would make sense to wait until the pattern is revealed before deciding what to take.  Also, if you go later on you just may be able to see videos of those scoring and see what they are using and how they are playing the lanes.

So far, looks to me like the experienced folks (from what I can tell) are taking something that can burn a line in the pattern and a couple others to play with once the lanes are 'prepared'. It also looks like stonger balls are preferred.

Nationals rookies like me are (or were) looking at bringing a wider range of equipment. I was thinking Resurgence, Striking Motion, TX1, Purple Vibe.

Am I learning the lesson correctly thus far?

Obviously, things may change based on what the early reports are out there. However, if I had to make the decision right now, I''d go with this:

Virtual Gravity (2000 dull)
Onyx Vibe (1000 or 2000 dull)
HyRoad (2000 dull)
Onyx Vibe (Box)
Natural (Box or maybe with some polish)
Spare ball

Not really sure have not bowled on the pattern or heard any feedback since the tournament has not started yet. Seems kind of silly to pick an arsenal with no info.

I usually grab three pieces that feel real good off my hand. Also, taking six or seven pieces doesn't make much sense to me. Lot of stuff to drag around. In '06 I only took two balls and had my best year (792 in doubles)

Seems to me the trip is less aggravating and I have been only taking three ever since.

I guess the OP might consider whether side events are part of the trip.  They might require different equipment or layouts depending which event is being bowled.

im sure there are plenty of side tournaments going on throughout all the months of nationals.  I know we are planning on trying to bowl in atleast one other tournament while were out there.

The BTM and the BJ are probably two that will be there.  I wonder if they will have an Ebonite challenge like that did in Vegas.

I'll be taking the same lineup I bring to any tournament.  We have a guy who drives his RV every year so I don't need to worry about flying equipment out.

Storm Special Agent
Storm HyRoad

After hearing the reports from this weekend about the need for control at the breakpoint, here's what its looking like for me right now:

Storm Virtual Gravity
Columbia 300 Big Shot
Columbia 300 Momentum Swing
Columbia 300 Loud Noize
AMF Angle Evolution pearl

Here is the plan right now:

EBO Mission
Storm Virtual Energy
White Dot
Now the problem.  I can bring one more either my Hyroad or my Twisted Fury Pearl which i have used the last 2 years and shot over 1800 both years.  Not sure at this point but at least i have another 3 months to figure it out.

Right now the plan is...
Invasion at box
Virtual Energy at 1000 and Beans
Power Swing at 1000 and Beans
Spare ball

Might pick up a Reign of Fire and polish that a little knowing it will react on the carry down maybe better than the other two middle balls.  I don't think I need it box with an Invasion already. Another option would be to knock the polish off the VE. It's a Richter layout so very controllable.  Waiting though to get some feed back from Riggs on what he is hearing as well as some others I know bowling in the next week or so.
